I grew up a Richard Petty fan and I've been a Kyle Petty fan since he started racing. My wife pulls for Bill Elliot. Of course it doesn't hurt that they're driving Dodges.

I usually pull for Bill Elliot, but any of the Dodge Boys will do. Bill seems to have lost some of his edge. It would be nice to see a Petty win in a Mopar again. But I just think Kyle is as driven to win as Richard was. There is one driver I especially don't want to see win, but I won't say. I don't want to start anything. Seems Chevy has the edge having all of the top five starting positions.

Having been an avid NASCAR fan for the past 25 years and attended up to five races a year, I have completely lost interest. This isn't stock car racing anymore, You can't even buy some of the body styles that they race. I have always been a Petty fan, but I'm not even sure I'll bother watching it this year. Restrictor plate racing is boring. All they do now is whine about the other makes having an advantage. I would like to see a MOPAR win. No favorites here anymore.

Second year back in racing and the Dodge boys win the Daytona 500. Who would a thunk it. Congrats to Ward Burton.

Not bad. A Dodge hasn't won the "500" since 1974.

I don't agree Al. Gordon blocked and spun that wasn't Sterling's fault and as for the fender thing, he would have had to come in anyway. And, Earnhardt did it under a Red Flag and NASCAR allowed it. Just another one of the race inconsistencies.

Dave, I know even Gordon said he blocked, but there wasn't enough room for an inside pass even if he didn't slide down.
Talk about a block-what was that move when Harvick took out half the field? I have been looking forward to the season start, and restrictor plate or not, the race had me goin!

Al, I just don't like restrictor plate racing. I have become digusted with the whole thing. I guess we will see who whines this week for aero changes to their car.

I'm with you there Dave, but it's all we got. I think Ralph Nader started it all-lets get on his case Hard to imagine what the racing would be like again with 30+ MPH added to the top speed at the super speedways. If I remember right, didn't Elliot when he was king run over 220 at the big tracks?

I thought the idea behind restrictor plate racing was to make the racing safer? It appears to me to have had the opposite effect - alomost always resulting in a big, multicar crash due to too many people running too close together. Let 'em race!!!

As far as aero changes, it looked like all three brands were fairly even yesterday!

I would prefer going back to the days when you could actually buy the bodies that they were using for racing. I don't think NASCAR should keep messing with the aero package just to keep them equal. If that's the case make a common body template and have them all the run the same just like IROC. The brand would be based on the engine and you could slap whatever nameplate on it that you want.

Dave - In actually liked it when they raced "real" cars in the 70's and earlier. I am still a big fan of NASCAR now, but liked watching a car I could see in the showroom going around the track!

I'm all for letting'em race too, but if you'll recall, when they ran unrestricted at the super speedways the cars tended to fly... literally. Wasn't it King Richard that nearly took down the grandstand fence at Daytona? And somebody else did about the same thing at Talledaga.

Seems like you're right Al. I think back when Bill was Million Dollar Bill the Thrill, him and the rest of the big guns were qualifying above 220.

I either saw on TV or heard the story somewhere where Bill was running about 224 in practice and Ernie told him to come in cause he thought he could get another couple of MPH out of it. Bill told Ernie, yeah, you drive the @%&#@&% thing.
