I know Randy Hatfield, CJ and Ken G., & GPSchultz do. Has anyone switched brake pads to ceramic? or other dustless pads? Is there a PT Cruiser website worth checking into?

Ed,
Try http://www.ptcruiserclub.org/

You name it, they got it - they even have things there you wouldn't think to ask - kind of like here I guess... Go to the "public discussion forums" and anything you want to know should be there. The site is structured alot like this one, and they have a search feature for anything in particular. Tons more traffic there, so if you see something today, you may have to look for it tomorrow...

President of the PT Cruiser Club is Mike Challis. Mike has been to several of our POA events. It was his group that invited us to the Texas Motor Speedway last year. He's also been to Dream Cruise! He also posts here on occasion.

Oh yeah, Ed......flames tomorrow!

Sure, rub it in. I am on a fixed income and can't afford all those upgrades. Post a picture. Thanks for the info on the PT site.

Ed,
Not much in the way of "ceramic" brake pads, but here are a couple links I found
http://www.ptcruiserclub.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000509.html http://www.ptcruiserclub.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000218.html
and http://www.ptcruiserclub.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000635.html

It looks like there are no aftermarket "dustless" or "ceramic" brakepads for the PT Cruiser yet. There was some talk of brakes needing new front pads at between 18k and 24k miles though. Some discussion on shields to reduce dust from the brakes, but little else on the subject. Not too many complaints on excessive dust either, so that could explain the low number of posts on the subject.

I have around 6k miles on my 5-spd PT, and dust doesn't seem to be a problem like it is with the Prowler. Both cars have the chrome wheels and original pads, yet the wheels on the PT are alot cleaner after long drives than for the same trip in the Prowler (from home to Detroit, for example).

Hope this helps - so, is a PT in your future? If so - remember, BLACK is the BEST colour (especially compared to red! Opinions may vary though...)

Ed,
The only source I could find was "EBC Greenstuff" brake
pads (Front brake pads only). ETA Jan./Feb. 2002 at $89.
Possible availability date of 12/14/01.
Tire Rack at 1-888-541-1777 seems to be the distributor.
Hope this helps, but I don't think "brake dust" is really
a serious issue with the PT.

Ed.

We have Silver with 20,000 miles. The brake dust is terrible... As bad as the jeep.... I've never had the brake dust on Prowler like some of the others... I've been thinking about the Raybestos for PT & Jeep, but now I gues they are not availble yet... I sure would be interested in a fix for PT & Jeep...

John & Laddie, thanks for the feedback. I bought one last Thursday and washed it Sunday. The front wheels looked as bad as the Prowler's used to look like, in my opinion. I don't see how you can clean the inside of them, the holes are so small. I don't think a CA dustbuster would even work. I only have about 325 miles on it. I figured someone had found ceramic pads by now since there have been about 1/4 million cars produced. Anyway, thanks for the info. I will look around.
I got a Taupe Pearl (in other words a medium brown) automatic thanks to CJ & Bob and the Friends program.

Ed,
Congrats on the new ride - second best colour, too!
That was my second choice of colour - won't show the dirt as much as black does. I ordered two, and the Taupe came in first - I had decided I really wanted the black by then, so I let the Taupe go. Tell us more about your new beastie!

I just bought one also in Patriot Blue for my son to use. I'll be watching for the ceramic brake pads too.

I have one as well. It's actually the wifes car. The brake dust is horrible. I kept telling her that I wanted to switch them out and she would say "what ever". That's of course because she doesn't wash it. You know who does. I went as far as going to a parts store and they said that they did not have them in stock but could get them. They were a private label brand but supposedly made by rabestos for them. I can't think of the name of the store. If they were right they might be availible now. If anyone finds out for sure I too would be interested.

I called Tire Rack and they told me 30 to 60 days. They are coming over on the boat from England. (REALLY, that is what he said.)
I know this is the Prowler site but if anyone finds brake pads, please post.

Andy, on the website they show picture of the grills but I think they look like different grills. I don't think of it as a totally cool car and may not do a thing to it. I like the styling and it is a nice car with a lot going for it for the low price, but I don't see it as a hot rod. The grill bars seem too wide for the chrome trim. I need to see one first.

The flames look good, CJ. Did you apply them yourself?

No, Ed, we had a local graphics company apply them. Actually, this is one of the MOPAR Flame Accent Kits. You can order four different colors of "ghost flames" on Cruiser from the factory, or choose from a couple of different kits from MOPAR and apply them yourself. After we leased my PT, we decided to try the vinyl flames from MOPAR, so we had them applied after the fact! This is the same company that provides the flames on the "Super Rod" magazine Cruiser.

Wow CJ, those flames look great! I'm surprised a factory option is that flashy. I expected the factory flames to be much less.

GPS sent me an email the other day with the name and number to call for dustless brake pads for the PT. Laddie, Dave Mills, Blue Tie Bill and Keith the Cannuck expressed a desire to get some. I ordered some yesterday and forgot to post it here.
First off, Thanks a lot PGS John.
Call Jon B at 360 837 3937, I mentioned GPS name and got them for $ 79 plus shipping. (They are normally $ 59 if you don't mention you know GPS John.) Call before 5:30 Pacific time.

Keith, I have not received them yet. I think they are the EBC Greenstuff but I don't know the part number. I think Jon is the only one who has received them. I called the 800 number for parts rack and they did not. He is a parts rack dealer. He did not need to look it up, he knew the parts number. I will post the parts number when they arrive. I do not know if they fit the rear wheels. I only ordered one set even though I have 4 wheel disc. I will check that out later, also.

We are new to the list. We have a 2001 Prowler orange (pumpkin) and a PT Cruiser (salsa).
Ed, we have the chrome trim on the grille on both vehicles. We have pictures on our web site http://www.zianet.com/SLlover - specifically http://www.zianet.com/SLlover/ptaccgrille1.jpg (PT) and http://www.zianet.com/SLlover/page60a.html (Prowler).
As far as the brake dust , we don't seem to have a problem.

Hope this helps,

Norm and Pat

The cars look great. It seems like some people are having brake dust problems and others are not. It does not make any sense but mine are pretty bad.
Is the chrome on the grill just that 3/8 half round door edge guard? It seems the grill edges are too wide to accept that door edge guard trim, to me. I have a 2002, did they change the grill, possibly?
I hope you guys can make some of the events. The Colo event looks like it is going to be a huge success. The past events have been really a lot of fun.
Thanks for the info.
