I have gotten several messages with an attachment from LEE FERGUSON that apparently contain a virus. When I try to reply I get a returned message that ALLEYKAT2 is not a legitimate account. I do not know if this is Lee Ferguson registered on this site or if it is attaching his name and forwarding the virus. Hopefully no one got the virus from me, inadvertantly. I am going to reboot my computer and I will not open any attachments from Lee Ferguson and I will not forward any jokes for a few days. Butchcee and Prowlertime be especially vigilant. Hopefully you did not get the virus. |

Hey now, I've gotten 5 from this source today alone. They started yesterday. I've even replied asking them to stop, they didn't so I put a email block on them........... ------------------ |

I got the same emails today (over 20). I also assume that it contains some sort of worm or virus that spreads via your Outlook email address book. There are two attachments: a .txt file and a .dat file.... Do not open either file! Delete the email immediately. If you have already opened it then you should run a virus scan program on your entire hard drive. If anyone scans and finds a virus, please give us an update here. ------------------ |

Mike, I just got some more returned mail saying I sent an email to BAMBAM at 9:20 PM. I wasn't even home at that time and the computer certainly wasn't on. I don't know BAMBAM so I am not sure how it picks who it sends emails to. I had opened one yesterday but I am deleting anything that I get since. I got about 10 of them so far. Sorry If I passed this on. |

I got them too today,, deleted before attachments were opend.. But,,and this maybe another issue,, I'm having to keep resetting my cookies. go figure. ------------------ |

I received three messages yesterday from Lee Ferguson. Had no idea who it was, so I copied the attached file to a floppy and opened it in Windows Explorer. Was something from a caterer about someone's wedding. I hope that by opening it that way, it didn't send it on to anyone. The second and third were titled Thanksgiving 1999 and somebody and Kirsten baby shower. I just deleted them without opening the file and put a block on the email address. Hi I have a systems security person that works for my company. These are indeed a virus attack. It was traced to an address in Jacksonville Florida. My companies firewall caught it and did the trace. My legal people have reported this to the FBI and this morning my legal department will contact AT&T, the internet provider of this person. I have the resources to prosecute this person, as these e-mail were sent to my business and this is a federal offense. I will keep the forum posted after the discussion with AT&T. Yep, I received 5 or 6 yesterday & deleted all before opening. Received the hahaha this morning & deleted it before opening... This stuffs really makes you cautious on sending stuff. And, most times the person that gets affected doesn't even know it.... Here's a question. Should my Mcafee virus be detecting these? ------------------ |

Laddie I would get Norton Antivirus with e-mail scan. It is the best and it does catch this before you even see it. It deletes the virus but leaves the headers to trace. |

Yes, it is a virus. I had no idea it was on my machine until I got home last night. As soon as I ran the McAfee Virus Scan it found it. As a precaution, I immediately deleted the ferg@mediaone.net e-mail account. The virus name is W32\SIRCAM@MM. I deleted the corrupted file and now I am having problems with my system files. So if you have the virus be careful how you handle the corrupted file. You can e-mail me at the office at lee.ferguson@zisinternet.com. ------------------ |

I got this from "Ed" this morning and opened it. Nothing recognizable there after opening. I did a spyware check and foung 1 suspicious file. I deleted it. Now I'm having trouble defragging like there's a program running-oooops. So what do we do now, just converse thru the board? Part 1.1 Type:

A1A You need to contact mediaone and report it as we did trace it, so will they. Mediaone has been contact I think by now. That way you are safe from any investigative procedures. I got these stupud emails too,(5 or 6). I never opened the files just deleted them and sent a reply to OTP out as I thought it was a legit source.

Just got a call from my computer person. Apparently Lee has our names and e-mail addresses in his e-mail address book in his computer for this virus to work. It sends it from his address book to all the names. I don't understand why all of us would be in his email address book. Lee, does anyone else have access to you computer that would find our address on this site and send it.??? MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm |

For all those that I forward jokes to, I wont anymore until we can get this virus thing cleared up. Please extend the same courtesy to me. I will remove all club members that are in my addy book for safety. The puter seems OK now after delete of the the indicated file(files). I dont know how long these things take to screw things up. Never got a nod from my McAfee?????? Maybe I need to update? ------------------ |

I can't access my address book yet, still having trouble with system files. I know of no reason why most of the names ( that got the corrupted emails) would be in my address book. I have neither sent or received any emails from them in the past. ------------------ |
