I concur with everyone, Paul. I really like the grille even though I was only mildly interested up until now. The flair on the ground effects nose has a nice effect, too. I personally am too chicken to remove those bumpers so I'd never achieve that look.

Perhaps one of our photo editing gurus like Bill Gallagher or Dan Pena and now, too, Cliff, could take a crack at pasting this image on a bumper-shod car to give us a look at what it might look like to the timid owners in the group. How 'bout it photo wizards?

Come on Paul.........nothing timid about me. I just have no desire to remove my bumpers!

Has anyone considered the fact that the bumpers are an integral part of the airbag system?

Ok lets stir the pot , the heck with it.

In my opinion the car was made to go bumperless. Every one I talked to at the shows commented on how much better the car looked without them.

Airbags work without bummpers.. and,,,,,,,
In my opinion again,,,,,,,,,, the car is crying to have it bumpers removed,,,,,,, whole different car, a roadster,,, what it was made for,,,,,,,,

Ok , lets hear it,,or not hmmmmmmmmm,,??

I like the car BOTH ways, but it does have a cleaner look without the bumpers. Is that my car? YES...it is ISN'T IT!

Quoted from the brochure...Plymouth Prowler - Anatomy of a New American Roadster:

"But without question, the most difficult design task was the bumpers, especially those up front. They give the somewhat eerie appearance of floating unsupported in front of the wheels, just below and ahead of the cycle fenders.

It would have been easy to do the Prowler without bumpers. But we did the bumpers, Verduyn emphasizes, to prove we could build the car in production, if it came to that. It was a real challenge, but a challenge we wanted. We were determined to satisfy the law and yet not ruin the hot rod feeling of the design. The bumpers had to be light and airy-looking, not massive. They also had to have an industrial design appearance, not a backyard shop look.

Verduyn's original sketch featured a more integrated bumper that wrapped around the grille, but Gale asked the guys to go back to a more "honest" layout with an early Thirties feeling.

We discussed and ultimately threw out vertical rods, then tried three different variations of a horizontal concept before arriving at the final design that's unusual but logical. The bumpers generated the most controversy, Verduyn, admits, but the car looks longer and leaner with the bumpers present. They add both length and tautness to the design. At the rear, twin bumpers of simpler design, mounted just below the fenders and lower body, visually echo the front.

The bumpers, made from hollow aluminum extrusions welded together and covered with an injection-molded RIM material, became a tad bigger and a bit further ahead of the front wheels to fully meet federal impact standards. Those floating bumpers are an integral part of the overall air bag restraint system.

Paul, I will post a picture of the grill on a purple car with bumpers later today when I get a chance. Until then, here is a pic with the grill on a red car (my own).

Personally, I prefer the look of the car with the bumpers on, especially since I have painted mine gloss black.

I have had the bumpers on and off and now prefer them on. To me, its makes the car look more contemporary/unique and more menacing. There are no other cars in production with front bumpers like ours (maybe there is a reason for that )

Exactly,,, they've got to be the uggliest thing ever put on a production car. And the airbags do work without bumpers,,

I need to learn to open up more.

Yes John, don't bottle it up> Just say what is on your mind

I like the look either way, and haven't yet decided on which way to go.

My only concern is the insurance question. If another person hits your front or you hit something, can the insurance companies claim the damage would have been less with the front bumpers intact? Then deduct for that factor?

They should have left the hollow aluminum bumpers uncovered and just had them chromed.

Bill - did painting them black help to take away the plastic look?

I agree with JD... Now, don't have anything against bumpers. But, they might look good on an Aztek...

Bill, thanks for the photo editing including the M&L grille on your red ride. I like the look and like the gloss black bumpers. I kept mine factory grey but yours look better.

Hey, still, PaulR, on your car the grille still looks great! Thanks for starting this discussion.

Laddie, I don't think anything could improve an Aztek. That has to be the worst looking vehicle ever produced, unless you compare it to a AMC Gremlin.
