Not as important as what you first three pointed out, but I would read to them and have music playing a lot. Don't let them get hooked on tv while still infants. Get them interested in reading and music. They will learn something useful instead of all the wrong things.

First and foremost, love them unconditionally and always let them know they are loved. But don't spoil them.

I agree with Ed, reading is important. Start reading to them even as babies. It is a wonderful habit to develop. They love the sound of your voice even when they aren't old enough to understand. I read to both of my sons. They were excellent readers when they got to school and my oldest son has continued the practice with his own two sons.

Mike G is absolutely right, also, with regard to the night time ritual. Rock them if you like, but don't rock them to sleep every night. They will never learn how to fall asleep by themselves.

Good points by all

I found that with my daughter to explain things to her from an early age about right and wrong.

You cannot let them do everything they want when they are small because they do not understand and expect them to mind when they are older.

I hate to see someone yell at their kids in public. I was able to get her attention and she would stop what she was doing without saying a word or any physical contact.

I know he is just a few days old but never too soon.

My first rule was: Keep your hands off the glass in my cars and don't touch my trains.

Spend all the TIME you possibly can with them, as they grow up so fast, and you can't go back and makeup those lost hours.

Speaking from experience!
