I like the look of a 1970 SuperBee. Is a stock SuperBee with a 383 about as fast as a SuperBee with a 440? I know the 383 engine has 440 heads. I see lots of SuperBees with 383's for sale but not many with 440's. Is it better to have a 440 vs a 383 if you want to create a pro street SuperBee? Thanks. ------------------ |

The 440 Mopars were faster out of the box then the Hemis. There's no substitute for cubic inches. ------------------ |

The 440 is quicker. I have a 383 in my '66 Sport Fury Convertible and its fast enough for me. ------------------ |

Had a `69 440 Roadrunner my senior year in high school, and have had several 383 cars too. Of course the 440 is more powerful, but what are you looking for. A Superbee that is FAST? It is recommended if you get a factory # matching car to pull the motor and install a different motor, if you plan on running the crap out of it. That way if you blow it you still have the # matching motor. If you are not looking to run it that hard what difference does it make if it is 383 or 440 and if you are take the advise of the experts and put in Crate or good rebuilt 440 They are both good strong motors. if looking for rare and money no object the HEMI is and always will be KING of THE STREET ------------------ |

It's been a billion years since I drove both but I do have fond memories of driving both engines. I drove a 440 in a '68 Fury III and a '69 Roadrunner. No doubt the 440 is a torque-delivin' crusher. The 383 'Runner was quick and good pickup but, for my money, and if I was into the older stuff, the 440 is one I'd recommend. ------------------ This message has been edited by Paul on 02-02-2001 at 09:42 PM |

I had a 67 Dodge R/T 440 375 HP. There was not much factory muscle that could touch it indcluding the Hemi. Closest I came to be being beat was a 68 Dodge Dart with a 340. Both cars had Auto. I was half way through second and he was still winding in first. Once he hit second I left him in the dust. I could put that car in Drive, floor it, the speedo would climb to 60 something and the car would be still in the same place. Once it shifted to second it would start moving forward. Eventually a Hemi would out run me but it took awhile.

Thanks for the memories guys. I had a 1965 Dodge Coronet convert. with 426 wedge 4-speed. What a sleeper, everyone thought the convert had a smaller block V-8. Owned it for seven months, and then a guy offered me $1000 more than I paid for it. Greed struck me once again, and it was gone. ------------------

Nightprowler, Tried to email you but it didn't go thru. If you are wanting a FAST car and an older "B" body mopar. A buddy has a red with black interior`67 Coronet (model"440"). It has a hemi in it and runs in the 12's. It has been detuned so he doesn't have to install cage. It can run in 11's and set up just right maybe high 10's. This guy use to drive the drag car for Palmer Dodge in the early `60's and knows how to make a car go fast. If I had the extra cash it would be sitting in my garage now. BIG DEAL IF I HAVE TO KICK THE WIFE AND DAUGHTERS CAR OUT I think he wants about $9,000. He also has a Little Red Express that he pulls it to the drag strip with. He will sell as a package, but I cannot remember what he wanted for Truck, Trailer and car. With mufflers and street tires this car is STREET LEGAL. Not a show car but a very nice driver. Also know where a `69 big block Dodge Charger SE is that is ready to be finished. New B 5 Blue paint. $6,500. My guess is it would be worth 12~14 K after it is finished. `69 or `70 440 six pak would be the ideal BEE unless you can find a HEMI 383 with 440 heads in a good body for the right price would be fast enough unless you want all out drag car. It is not TO BEE OR NOT TO BEE it is more like MY TWO CENTS ------------------ |

Wildcat, system@wontacceptit.com-made up email address. eveready_2000m@yahoo.com works. I sent you a pm yesterday but I dont know if it went thru. I kind of feel like Buck in the Call of the Wild. Something keeps urging me to get and feel a car with a big block with performance cam, performance crank, 850 double pumper, low rear end ratio, headers on a '70 built car. The feeling keeps lingering, hovering, nudging... chrome hoodpins....suspension bars 383's are all over the place. 440's a little harder to get at a reasonable price. ------------------ |
