Hyundai's future Neos no limits
The Hyundai Neos concept - it's not all about looks!
Hyundai’s latest creation, the Neos concept car is the kind of contraption that has to be seen to be believed. Combining styling firmly rooted in the glory days of hot rod racing with space-age technology, it's about as striking as a Soviet air traffic controller.
Created by engineers at Hyundai's research and development facility in Japan, the Neos - New Evolution Open Sportscar - is their second roadster concept car in recent years.
For those who think the Neos is too outrageous ever to be put into production, it is worth bearing in mind that Hyundai's first effort, the Euro 1, was the inspiration for their popular Tiburon coupe.
Like its predecessor, the Hyundai isn't all about looks. The two-litre, four-cylinder engine generates a powerful 186kW and is perfectly balanced for the rigours of true sports car performance.
The mid-mounted engine is linked to a six-speed, sequential, semi-automatic gearbox.
The vehicle has been stripped of all but the most essential details to keep weight to a minimum. The body is constructed from a resin and aluminium composite.
Despite the ultra-lightweight structure, safety is a prime factor in production.
Carbon fibre has been used in the body to maintain a rigid shell, while the front and rear extremities are made of a honeycomb structure designed to crumple and absorb any impact.
If safety comes top of the design agenda, security comes second.
Hyundai are leading the way with a personalised data entry card, which not only allows you access to the car, but also starts the engine.
Gullwing doors make entry and exit a breeze.
The silver and blue trim and race-style seats give a cockpit-style interior. The dashboard uses analogue and digital instrumentation to give drivers all the data needed.
The Neos is the kind of car that all global security agents should get their hands on
