Force takes NHRA Division 4 Alcohol Dragster title..
In her rookie season in Top Alcohol Dragster, Ashley Force earned three NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event wins in four final round appearances to capture the NHRA South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster Championship. Force (pictured) knocked out veteran driver Gene Snow in a close final-round match-up at this weekend's All Star Automotive Parts Division Cajun Challenge to seal the championship. Force clocked in at 5.352 seconds at 259.11 mph to Snow's 5.367, 262.69 mph giving Force the win by 39-thousandths of a second.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Tate Branch picked up his second win of the year taking out Richard McClain in the final. Local favorite Joe Teuton from Houma, La., won the Super Stock class while Jason Coan took a close one in the Comp Eliminator final. Joe Endzelis grabbed the win in the Sunset Racing Engines Top Sportsman class while Stock Eliminator matched up two of the biggest hitters on the NHRA circuit when Jeff Hefler defeated David Rampy. Other winners were Jim Hughes out in Super Comp; Clark Mundt in Super Gas; and Jonathan Blades in Super Street. Shane Eperjesi took the Kerker Motorcycle win.
She draws a crowd like her father...
Here's Ashley Force after her Semifinal win on Sunday. That was a wild ride. She almost hit the right wall twice crossed over to the center twice and finally around the 1/8 mile she got it hooked up... That car was all over the track and doing a burnout while she was getting it under control to that 1/8 mile... She was lucky to get a win - her competitor broke a belt and she won with a run of 8.2...
Here Ashley and her crew chief (glasses) reivewing a video of that run taken by a Fan. Her crew chied said "don't do that again"... that girl can drive... At some point I guess she'll be taking over her Dad's Top Fuel car.... She's 21 years old...
Here's the green light start for the Final. This was the 2nd start. The 1st time they came to the line after their burnouts Ashley's car killed and they couldn't get it started... Snow, agreed they could go back to the pits and re-prep the cars for a Final run. It took them around 45 minutes to get back to the line... It was a terrific run for the championship...
Pictures a little dark. I took this from the tower you can see the flames after the green light start...
