I don't have one. Lots of people I work with have them and love them. When I surfed looking at them, I saw $400 prices plus service. Most of the folks I know say they got them for $199 so I'd say shop for special sales!

Us southern boys used to pick blackberrys, get your fingers stained purple, get briar scratches and get at least 1 chigger on you!

Hey - You all asked what a blackberry was and I was just trying to get you an answer. I know a number of people that love them. I don't use one. Heck, I never even surfed the net or used email on my cell phone.

I've had every model since the Blackberrys came out a few years back. They are awesome and allow me to respond immediately to any email I receive regardless of where I am - out of country, on the golf course, at a Prowler event. Mine also has a built in cell phone.

I can also retrieve files from my office server, get stock and portfolio quotes, stock graphs, trade online, and surf the net. Awesome little machine

Coming soon - a new Blackberry with VoIP (Voice over I.P - or internet calling) capabilities.

Oops! Didn't mean it to read/sound the way you took it, Marty--that's why there's a smily face after the comment! I was expecting it to have something to do with Prowlers--not a cell phone--is all! No offense intended, brotha'! I was just typing out loud~LOL

I have both the new blackberry with the phone and nextel 2 way and all that stuff, as well as the original with just the email. I would highly recommend the old one, battery lasts forever, and holding that big thing to your ear as a phone isn't comfortable, plus the new one is a strictly digital phone and the reception is less than remarkable. But as far as wireless email the original blackberry is awesome.

I have this instead:

T-Mobile Sidekick II by Danger. From what I hear, does everything a Blackberry does: phone, full internet with real webpages, planner, etc.

Blackberry is the only device that is "always on - always connected". In other words you get the email the second it is sent to the blackberry. It doesn't have to push/pull messages like sidekick or outlook or other devices - even your desktop only retrieves messages once every X minutes depending on your settings. Many firms also have proprietary software that will only work on blackberrys. From what I understand, blackberrys have 90 some odd percent market share of portable business email devices.

The Blackberry is certainly suited more to business than consumer. From a consumer point of view, it has no "real
" games, no camera, no "great" organizer, no mp3, etc.

But for email, it's numero uno

Frozen, I agree on the battery. It's a nice slim rechargeable that only last a couple days for me (I get about 300 email a day plus phone usuage) so I've gotten into the habit of recharging in the cradle every night. Reception - you are in MN, what do you expect
