I have been heavily involved over the past 27 years with the PGA Tour event we have here in Greensboro. I'm proud of what this event has done for this area. This past week surpassed all other years.

Through a chance meeting with Tiger Woods and the leaders at Ft. Bragg, an alliance between the tournament and troops was formed. Four busloads of troops where brought to the tournament each day and they were treated as VIPs. Many corporate exes gave their playing privileges in the Pro-Ams to Ft. Bragg leaders and troops. These were Pro-Am spots businesses/individuals had paid $2,500 to $5,000 for. When playing pros heard of this, many took red eye flights from Vegas (previous tour stop) to get the chance to meet and play with the troops. These guys usually do all they can do to NOT play in Monday Pro-Ams. "We Support our Troops" stickers were placed on all professionals bags and on all Chrysler courtesy vehicles. John Daly gave out hundreds of dollars of souvenirs from his souvenir trailer. Food and beverages were free to all troops on the course. They were admitted to corparate tents and skyboxes. General Buck (I forget his last name) spoke at our major breakfast on Saturday morning. I forget his last name because he insisted on being call Buck, not General whatever. The leaders and troops where overwhelmed due to the general hospitality and because fans stopped them to thank them for their service constantly.

WAY TO GO to the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro, PGA TOUR, tour professionals, Chrysler (sponsor) and fans for the show of support to the troops!

Orange -

I didn't get any pixs of the troops, etc. due to hassle of getting a media credential in order to carry a camera on course. Limited use by professional photographers at golf tourneys.

I did get some quick shots of 300C convertible and Atlantic concept cars that I'll post on another thread.

Glad to hear the Pros gave something back. Usually Pro golfers heads aren't as big as Pro basketballs etc. Fred Couples Caddie Joe Lacava lives in my town. Freddy stays at his house when he plays the Buick Classic in NY & CT (Was GHO)! They play my local Country Club on occassion, and bring along some of the other pros.We can't do enough for the guys and gals over in Iraq!
