Loved Pumpkins Straw Poll suggestion ... so cut and pasted into Emails to send to friends ... have received half a dozen calls saying "my email contained a virus" ... am not computer knowledgable ... so, question ... I run current Norton, Ad-Aware & spybot regularly and my laptop was just checked ... COULD that "text" have contained something? Thanks and also this is an FYI to others too I guess ...

Ray,
What version of Norton do you have? "Norton Internet Security" 2004 or 2005(Don't know if it's out yet)I hope? The newer versions of Norton download current virus definitions automatically as soon as your computer sees that it is connected to the Internet.
In the event you happen to download a virus...Norton will quarantine it before you have a chance to pass it on to others. The other 2 programs you listed are to remove spyware and unnecessary files and tracking cookies only. I would suggest using them all on a weekly basis.
Sometimes when I receive e-mail on my ISP's server the incoming message will say "Spam Alert". Are they seeing this message thinking it's a potential virus?
I hope I have been of some help. Have a good night.
Brian

There is no way the "text" you copied and pasted contained a virus. Depending on your friends email accounts, some mail services look for "keywords" in the body of the message and add up a score to determine if it's spam or suspicious. Hope this helps.

Another possibility is that you have a virus on your system that was transferred with your email to them, but was not part of the straw poll text that you copied. Some viruses will make your on-computer antivirus look like it is working when it really isn't. You can run an online norton check here: http://www.zone-x.com/spybot.php
