What He said:
Well, Ray old boy... You talk alot about ignoring certain posts and moving on, yet, as has been pointed out, you fail to do the same. As for your suggestion that I "police" the posts, some have requested that that very thing be done in this forum, and Mike has offered that up to a volunteer. Were I to volunteer to fill that post (a different kind of post, mind you), I would have kindly asked that you remove your initial posting to this thread, and when you refused to do so, I would have removed it myself.
Oh, another thing, old boy... You get into name calling and critisize what others post but don't seem to be able to handle critisism yourself.
Oh, and Ray, old boy... You talk of the difference between a suggestion and criticism, yet you fail to realize that it was YOU who CRITICIZED the seller's price prior to suggesting what he do about it, and it was I who offered you a suggestion on how to handle your criticism differently, after questioning your criticism. I think YOU need to learn the "BIG difference" between the two.
One more thing, old boy... as you read this, I believe it was you who stated, "I'm done with this thread" ... Bear that in mind as you read this and then post in this thread again, once again proving you don't know what you are saying. Have a good day, old boy.

What I originally said:
Anyone can ask what they like for stuff they are selling, but an FYI ... at least on the bumpers ... you are asking almost "retail" and there are many DC Dealers on this board that will do 10% over cost and no shipping ... so you may want to sharpin your pencil if you want to sell your items.

As any intelligent person can read and understand; I begin with the disclaimer and acceptance about the seller's goods and their price. I then simply provide information about a known item and use "retail" as guidance to the seller. Then lastly the suggestion to "sharpen his pencil" if the desire was to move the items quickly.

So Mr iDive ... what ISN'T CLEAR to YOU Mr. I'm FOR Censorship??? GOD BLESS Mike K. for not bestowing ANY such power on you cause you have been seen on BOTH sides of the fence ... those in glass houses ... well, profound philosophy might be lost here huh?

Well mr. Ray... I'd love to go for a dive. I knew you would just start another thread on this too. You ask what isn't clear to me? I'll be more than happy to tell you. What isn't clear to me is why you don't send posts like your original post in the thread you were done with, and chose to not follow your own advice and pass on by only to start another thread continuing it, in a PM or email as I originally suggested. You have never explained that, other than to say you will post whatever wherever you want to, but expect others to keep their comments to themselves, then say others are the ones in favor of censorship, and I guess that is why it isn't clear. I'm not for censorship at all. In fact, I'm against keeping comments out of the classified section. If posted in a respectable manner, they have a purpose. In my opinion, if you aren't interested in buying what's for sale, aren't offering first hand knowledge about their product (ie. I've seen that car and it is clean and well kept), or aren't trying to prevent a buyer from getting ripped off (ie. I've dealt with this guy in the past and never got what I paid for), then don't post in there. I just think a little decency, consideration, and common sence should be used once in a while. I think I'm pretty fair, and a pretty tolerant and accepting individual, but I finally got tired of reading post after post in the classified section where you knock openly someone's asking price. Just because you choose to call it by a different name, it doesn't change the reality of what it truely is. Obviously, I'm not the only one who feels this way. In fact, on the 3rd of this month, several of us got together locally, and your history of such posts was brought up, not by me, mind you, and everyone present was tired of seeing you do these things I speak of. They ALL made their comments on the subject matter BEFORE any input from me on the subject. And the thread you speak of pretty well supports my contention that I am not the only one as well.
I don't see your acceptance of the seller's price in your opening statement. What I see is your acceptance of the right of the seller to ask whatever he wants. What follows that, as many of us see it, was you then expressing your nonacceptance of his asking price and suggest that the seller lower his asking price to make a sale (or to passify your acceptance of his lowered asking price). He doesn't have to lower his price to make a sale. If someone feels comfortable with that price, they'll buy it. Case in point... Jeff hunter offers a discount that's better than my local dealer's discount. I can get splash guards cheaper at my local dealer after Jeff adds shipping. The prices are comparable and within cents of one another. I don't tell Jeff he needs to lower his price to make the sale to me. There are also other dealers offering better deals on some things than Jeff is, after all costs are accounted for. That doesn't mean Jeff should lower his prices to sell the item. He offers us a deal. Someone either pays what he asks, or doesn't. He knows there are other prices out there.
If you want to continue going back and forth, I can certainly accomodate you. I think its pretty senseless, myself. But I don't think you are going to convince me that anything has changed until I see for myself that you no longer knock the asking price of other's goods in the open. Like I stated... I think YOU need to learn the "BIG difference" between a suggestion, and criticism. I also think you need to follow your own advice. I initially offered you a suggestion, and you couldn't handle it. You started name calling and criticizing. If you don't take other's suggestions, why should you expect others take yours? If you don't expect them to, then why bother making them? I made mine with the expectation that I was offering it to a reasonable individual that would have a little decency and consideration for his fellow members and take such future comments privately. Perhaps I was sadly mistaken. JMO.
Feel free to post below, and slam me, call me a poopoo doodoohead, critisize me, or offer what you call suggestions. Just don't expect a reply from me if you do. If you haven't gotten my point by now, you never will.

OK I'm sorry I can't hold back any longer. On the old PPC board (as far back as 1999) Ray used to claim he was a black disabled Viet Nam Veteran who lives in Elgin Illinois. He also held his own poll as to whether or not he should ever post here again and he LOST! He occasionally escapes from the mental hospital which happens to be where he lives. You just have to wait until he get his meds under control again. His biggest target used to be Sassy until she passed. The following is a post I made to good old Ray in February of 2002. It's a little out of context but I think you'll get the drift.
__________________________________________________________

First of all, I wish I was Richard Jewell. Since he now has collected over 3 million dollars because of press mis-representation. But if I recall at one point you were a black disabled Viet Nam Vet. You want to talk about misrepresentation? You are an insult to me and the rest of the true vets on this board, Dumb a$$ or have you forgotten that part of your lying and deceit? Like I said before let's take this off the board, either call me at 770-761-7741 or e-mail me. Since I haven't received a call or e-mail from you since I laid down the gauntlet I assume you don't have the courage/balls.......Otherwise I'll be in Chicago in May. We could meet then. Your nothing but a chicken **** coward who enjoys attaching people behind your keyboard !!!!!! By the way when we meet don't bother to pack a lunch 'cause it wont take long to settle this............whoops I forgot to follow your simple rules......Black 2000!!!!!!!!!!!!Just in case you can't remember while you're under medication. Sorry for everyone else who has to read this but, I have a problem with people who have NO integrity.
------------------------------------------------------------

Love you Ray please let them get your meds under control...

Welcome back Fixumm. I missed your posting.

Sometimes it's fun to sit back and watch people throw rocks at one another. We just have to make sure that this type of activity doesn't scare off any lurkers. Many eventually join in, once they feel comfortable.

It's simple.

I agree with Larry on this one! If someone can't provide information that might be useful to a seller in what they feel is a constructive manner without the fear of being singled out by those that have "issues" for doing so, then the Classifieds should be a "Post Only" area, and too bad if further questions / clarifications are needed, they can be handled off line as iDive has suggested ... it's just then the seller may have to repeatedly answer the same questions that could have been resolved in an open forum.
But to read the above, it seems that I did EXACTLY what iDive himself suggests IS an expectable reply to a seller as quoted from his text above: "In my opinion, if you aren't interested in buying what's for sale, aren't offering first hand knowledge about their product (i.e.. I've seen that car and it is clean and well kept), or aren't trying to prevent a buyer from getting ripped off (i.e., I've dealt with this guy in the past and never got what I paid for), then don't post in there." Once again for the record, I had just priced NEW bumpers, and aware of their cost per unit as compared to the seller's used units, it was an effort to make him aware of what "retail" was on these IN CASE he WAS NOT. Read that as trying to be helpful to the seller, NOT trying to run off buyers.
If the phrase "you might want to sharpen your pencil" is what has upset the torch-bearing towns people, then I sincerely apologize. I can see, if that is the sole line you focus on and if you take it out of the context of the rest of the post how in a small way you could stretch it to read it as being a critical comment. However, given the rest of the post and my "offering knowledge about their product" and the current retail cost of goods, it was done with an arm around the shoulder and a friendly suggestion in an effort to help someone who I have NEVER seen post anything before, move their items. I did NOT tell him he would never sell his things at "those prices" nor did I imply anyone would be "better served" to steer clear of his used items. The posts that followed mine sure made him feel though that WAS the case.
Larry is right and the Classifieds should be closed to comments -- in fact, Mr. Krehel, I hereby suggest that be the next front page poll (or was that already done -- what were the results?).
Anyway ... it appears that as I did NOT reply to the original thread as Mr. iDive "bet" I would (OK, so I started another one ...), yet HE just couldn't walk past this NEW thread ... go figure ... neither could a bunch of other "novel" writers ... and talk about people who live in the past and walk around with a "chip" on their shoulder ...Blackcat ... Poor poor depressed guy (?) ... now THERE is someone who really needs to, how did you put it iDive and ET too ... ah yes ... he needs to REALLY get a life and live in the present, not the past. And as Forest Gump would say ... "and that's all I am gonna say about that."

You are correct PCR Cat ... they are ... and truth be told, you'll see a lot of it on this board from many, just as on other chat boards I am afraid. Some is lively reading, others just are malicious (read that as YOU Blackcat) and totally counter-productive.

Welcome also! ... we are trying to be a more active "off-board" group here in IL / WI /IN and would welcome your participation at any and all the events. Please keep an eye to the Events Section for further details -- although we are losing Kating time fast here due to the weather, huh?

Hey PCR - welcome to the club. Just like most any group of people, not every POA member gets along with everybody else perfectly everyday. I can't imagine anybody working in a company where they actually like and agree with all the other employees on every issue or being part of a family where someone isn't at odds with another family memeber over something.

For an internet based organization, this is a most unusual and great forum to be a part of. Threads like this one creep up every so often and people are entitled to their own opinions.

I try (not always successfully) to not let the posts I don't agree with get to me and go on to the many other posts. Hopefuly, for the most part you will enjoy what you read and learn from this site and join in some of the events.

Marty

Welcome PCR. It is a good board for the most part. As with all boards though, there are some people who majically get 6'5 300lbs and bullet proof behind a keyboard Just the way it goes sometimes. Lot's of good info here in the other discussions.

That all depends, Larry... Are you gonna dive too? I just might take you up on your offer one of these days. Just as long as I don't have to jump out of a perfectly good Prowler to do it.

PCR CAT - Welcome to the POA. I'm sorry your introduction to this site was less than desirable. The up side tho is that it just gets better!

blackcat - I'm not out to remove anyone from the site. I hold no grudge towards Ray. I think you understand the point(s) I've made. Some (insert a well known Lutz quote here).
