Was at the Phoenix Adesa car auction yards today, and there sits 22 new Chevy SSRs ready to go through the wholesale ring on wednesday. Eleven yellow, three black, and eight silver,,,,,all with the window stickers still in place. Must be sitting at the dealerships? Greedy dealers? Sad, I kind of like them for their potential.

I'll try to pick up the sale prices at the end of the week.

Buddy - no reds there today. If they sell tomorrow, the price sheet should come out on friday. I'll try to get a copy then.

CT - you are right about their weight,,,,but here is one built up by Arizona Speed and Marine that produces over 400HP,,,,supercharger and exhaust installed.

Clearly Chevy blew it, in my opinion. I like what I see, but I don't like what I read (heavy, slow, greedy dealers, etc.)

I'd be interested in what these go for at auction.....

SSR's are really cool trucks! I love them for the looks! In two years, you'd be able to pick up a nice used one for $20-$25K. I'll pick one up then.

I really want to know what those new ones went for at auction...

Anyone know production numbers as of recently?

Here are some pics of So-Cal Speed Shop's SSR:

When every car manufacturer is producing cars and trucks with more HP why did Chevy build the SSR? If they put a bigger badder engine in it it would have sold. I have a underpowered, good looking, Fun Cruiser now! Don't need another. JMO

Orange - glad you mentioned that,,,,,I was informed that the SSRs are listed as a car, so those living in "no trucks" HOA communities, the SSR will qualify as a car.
Good to know.

Have you seen how many SSR's are listed in Autotrader? I think I will wait a year and see where they are at then.

The 2005 SSR gets the new vette LS2 motor and an optional 6-speed manual ..... but it still has poor handling because it's build on a trailblazer frame. I think with the 2005 improvements it will make the 2004 model less desirable.

Last I heard GM was offering a $7,500 rebate on the SSR.

And the 2005 model will have a beasty engine and much more HP.

I think they look great.....

The first model introduced was classified as 2003...there are still lots of those left unsold....$12000 rebate on those!
2004's are just about available anywhere...dealers will practically give them away at or close to cost...
2005 is a totally new and improved as far as engine,exhaust,wheels...we'll see!
Very interesting stat on that car is when it was first introduced as 2003,the price tag was higher than when the 2004 rolled out....figure that!

You should have taken it ... your Prowler AND they were gonna give you $40k?? What a deal .. and the ONLY way that I would take one of those HUGE ugly things (to each their own, right?) ... just kidding .. I knew what you meant.

This probably wouldn't be too bad with th 6 speed and a bit more torque to get the monster rolling. After 28 years of manual transmissions, I don't thing my knees want another for a bit though...

spoons,

Agreeded except I would have said undesirable as opposed to less.

Production numbers for 2003 - 3522
Production numbers for 2004 thru 10/9 - 12,914
Sold - 6 <- Of course this number is just an estimate

I think dealer cost would be way to high for a 2004 new. I might bite at $20K ...

So after the $12,000 rebate, what price are you looking at and where can you get a new one for that price?

I think these sticker for $42-43K so you'd probably be looking at $30-31K (decent price if they can be had for that).

Keep in mind too, while these may not be all that juiced up, since it's a Chevy and mass produced, there should be tons of cheap aftermarket options you can add.

Ray - the sales lady actually called me back a few days ago - at least she follows up on her leads. I told her my Prowler may only have a book value of $19,400 due to the 90,000 plus miles, but even if I was interested in an SSR, perhaps her dealership should get in touch with reality. She held her ground saying her sales manager still weanted a premium for the vehicle. I wished her luck but advised her anybody that does any kind of research will find out HUGE discounts are available all over the country.

Just for the record - if they gave me $40,000 and the SSR for my Prowler I would be calling Westech and telling to put my old engine back in, taking the car to RealRod to have the rear fenders and rear pan replaced; buy a newer Orange or Candy Prowler and install the new engine and rear end parts and keep the Prowler in the Garage except on nice days. The SSR would become my daily driver.
