I go under the knife tomorrow morning, Friday 10/1, at 7:30. I'm looking forward to getting it over with, so I can get on with my life. I don't think it's any big deal, so I'm not too concerned. Sandy will keep you all posted as to my condition while I'm unable to do it myself.

Thanks for caring, Kraut

This is Sandy, Kraut's wife. I just got home from the hospital. The doctor said the surgery was a success. He will be in the hospital until Monday and recuperation is about 12 weeks. He's in a fair amount of pain right now but hopefully that will be better each day.

Kraut:
Good luck my brother.. Hang tough the easy part is the surgery. The hard part is the trying not to do to much and let your back heal. It takes time. Watch out for the pain pills, they can get good to you. Remember BE TRUE TO YOURSELF.. I have had back surgery life does get better. There is POWER in prayer....... You and Sandy are in Robyn & my prayers..

Thank you all for the kind words and good wishes. I'm back on the computer myself now. I have lots of time to play, since Sandy won't let me do anything myself. I'm just supposed to take it easy.

I can't stay in bed all day though. It would drive me crazy. I just have to move very slowly and carefully so as to not use my back muscles. Most of the time I do it right, but every once in while I let out a big scream. (17) staples in the middle of your back are a bit uncomfortable. I wish they would have used stitches.

Other than that, things are going well and I'll be back to normal before you know it.

Be happy with the staples. They come out much more easily than stitches. Had plenty of both. I speak from experience.

Gray Ghost,

I'm glad to hear that staples come out easier than stitches, although that's still hard for me to believe. The doctor actually gave me a staple remover with instructions for a family member to remove them. My wife just about fainted at the thought, and my son can't wait to do it.
