The doctor said the surgery was a success. He will be in the hospital until Monday and recuperation is about 12 weeks. He's in a fair amount of pain right now but hopefully that will be better each day.

The hard part is the trying not to do to much and let your back heal. It takes time. Watch out for the pain pills, they can get good to you. Remember BE TRUE TO YOURSELF.. I have lots of time to play, since Sandy won't let me do anything myself. I'm just supposed to take it easy. I can't stay in bed all day though. It would drive me crazy. I just have to move very slowly and carefully so as to not use my back muscles. Most of the time I do it right, but every once in while I let out a big scream. (17) staples in the middle of your back are a bit uncomfortable. I wish they would have used stitches. Other than that, things are going well and I'll be back to normal before you know it.

Be happy with the staples. They come out much more easily than stitches. Had plenty of both. I speak from experience.

The doctor actually gave me a staple remover with instructions for a family member to remove them. My wife just about fainted at the thought, and my son can't wait to do it.
