There's an article in October's Hot Rod Mag, that tells about an aftermarket manufacturer who will be building NEW 69 Camaro bodies soon. They also have plans for 67 Mustang Fastbacks, 69 Mach One's, and 70 Cudas! According to HRM, The bodies are shipped in crates, and include doors and trunklids. They're manufactured with ANSI1010 steel that is imported. If this is true, what will the manufacturer's have to say about this? What will it do to the value of the real thing? |

...certainly not an expert here....my understanding is, if the design is changed by 10%, it is not considered an infringement on the original copywrite....but no names or logos can be used without permission from the original manufacturer.....I haven't seen anything about the new Cuda/Mustang etc, but with very little upgrading, I would assume it to be perfectly legal.....the Prowler is sort of the same thing, loosely based on Tom Gales '33 Ford hot rod.... ...when I picked up this car(1953 C5) last year, the Vette logo was a "gift" for having the conversion done....it is to be installed by the owner....there are no Chevrolet names or logos ANYWHERE on the car when it is delivered.... after my Dart I didn't think I would want to build another car. IF and it is a BIG IF, they were to build a `70 `Cuda convertible, I might be forced to build another car The value of the current car???????????? did the fiberglass 32 hurt the value of them? In reading the Hot Rod article they were comparing the time frame from when they started to reproduce the 32 and the Camero. There will always be difference of opinion. I would doubt the quality of the repo would be as good as the original, but an option for someone that wanted to rebuild a rust bucket or a 100% new car with repo parts and available NOS. I would also guess they will not build near as many `69 Camero's as they did the 32 Ford. |

My first thought was if they do build all of these, I bet we will see some 350 Chevy powered 'Stang and Cuda clones running around. It seems like they like to use the 350 and it will be a lot easier to get. This message has been edited by Dave Mills on 09-13-2004 at 05:44 AM |
