Reason was different on each occasion- lost, Torn on removal, etc. One dealer gave me a copy of the sticker but not the original. Is there any particular reason that a dealer would want to keep the window sticker? Are they destroyed/discarded on removal? If dealers do keep them has anybody here subsequently tried to get a window sticker from the original dealer and been successful. Reason I am asking this is because I am looking at a vehicle which the current owner did not get the window sticker and I am wondering whether there is any possibility that dealers may keep the window stickers on file.

There is no reason why the dealer should keep them or even destroy them.......but I guess they don't feel they are important to the buyer? Nor would they keep anything like that on file. Here is some information: What Is A Monroney Sticker? [KS] Although prices can sometimes be negotiable, automobiles are the only consumer items required by law to carry manufacturer suggested retail price stickers. This sticker, also called a Monroney label, is attached to a window of the vehicle. It shows the base price of that model, including all standard equipment; manufacturer-installed options and their retail prices; transportation or freight charges (also known as destination or delivery charges); and the total manufacturer's suggested retail price. Details about the average fuel economy for the vehicle are required on all cars and light trucks; this information is usually included on the Monroney label, but will sometimes be found on a separate sticker, the EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] Fuel Economy Label. The Monroney label may not be removed by anyone other than the purchaser. The legislation requiring the sticker is commonly known as the Monroney Law, named after its sponsor in Congress, Almer Stillwell "Mike" Monroney (1902-1980): Born in Oklahoma; U.S. Representative from Oklahoma, 1939-51; U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, 1951-69.

Registered: JUL 2004	posted 09-11-2004 12:06 AM Here in Missouri only the Purchaser of a NEW vehicle can remove that Sticker, It has always been on any new car that I have purchased.I work for a Dodge dealer and we have had cars come in from the factory missing the Monroney sticker and we HAVE to get a replacement and put it on the glass as where it is suppose to be. It lists the equipment. This has happened to me in the past. For example, it comes with Michellen tires (per sticker) but you talk him down lower than he wants to go. So... he swaps tires with some cheaper ones and removes the sticker to keep you from realizing you didn't get the tires you were supposed to get. (Cheaper tires, or cheaper radio, or seats from reclining to std. buckets, etc.) Legally, the sticker is to remain with the vehicle and failure to give it to the buyer is against the law. If you want a replacement that very closely resembles the original, there is a company that makes them for you. I don't know who it is, but I've seen the company posted on this site in the past year.

Since I order most of mine, my dealer takes it off when they prep the vehicle and they give it to me. I usually have the sticker before I pick up my vehicles.

I can't speak to Canadian law, but as for not seeing them on showroom cars, the sticker for my Prowler was in the glovebox.

I believe it is against the law for a dealer to intentionally remove items that came with the car and/or swap them with items off another car. I think most cars have stickers with numbers telling you what equipment came on the car too placed in various places on the vehicle. I think if anyone did do this and the manufacturer caught wind of it, they'd probably lose their license to sell them.

I remember my first day reporting for duty in the Navy in Long Beach'Ca.after settling down in the barracks, I went to the wreck room to watch tv and here I see this character wearing a cow boy hat standing next to a Ford Mustang, and on the other side of Him was this elephant. then he introduced him self " Hi folks this is Cal Worthington and my dog spot". Now tell Me would you feel comfortable buying a car from this guy?
