People over 35 should be dead.
Here's why ..........

According to today's regulators
and bureaucrats, those of us
who were kids in the 40's,
50's, 60's, or even maybe
the early 70's probably
shouldn't have survived.

Our baby cribs were covered
with bright colored lead-based
paint.

We had no childproof lids
on medicine bottles, doors
or cabinets, ... and when we
rode our bikes, we had no
helmets.
(Not to mention the risks
we took hitchhiking.)

As children, we would ride
in cars with no seatbelts
or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pickup
truck on a warm day was
always a special treat.

We drank water from the
garden hose and not from
a bottle.

Horrors!

We ate cupcakes, bread and
butter, and drank soda pop
with sugar in it, but we were
never overweight because
we were always outside
playing.

We shared one soft drink
with four friends, from one
bottle, and no one actually
died from this.

We would spend hours building
our go-carts out of scraps
and then rode down the hill,
only to find out we forgot
the brakes.

After running into the bushes
a few times, we learned to
solve the problem.

We would leave home in the
morning and play all day,
as long as we were back
when the street lights
came on.

No one was able to
reach us all day.

NO CELL PHONES!!!!!

Unthinkable!

We did not have Playstations,
Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no
video games at all, no 99
channels on cable, video
tape movies, surround
sound, personal cell phones,
personal computers, or Internet
chat rooms.

We had friends!

We went outside and found
them.

We played dodge ball, and
sometimes, the ball would
really hurt.

We fell out of trees, got
cut and broke bones and
teeth, and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.

They were accidents.

No one was to blame but us.

Remember accidents?

We had fights and punched
each other and got black
and blue and learned to get
over it.

We made up games with
sticks and tennis balls and
ate worms, and although we
were told it would happen,
we did not put out very many
eyes, nor did the worms
live inside us forever.

We rode bikes or walked to
a friend's home and knocked
on the door, or rang the
bell or just walked in and
talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and
not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to
learn to deal with disappointment.

Some students weren't as
smart as others, so they
failed a grade and were
held back to repeat the
same grade.

Horrors!

Tests were not adjusted
for any reason.

Our actions were our own.

Consequences were expected.

The idea of a parent bailing
us out if we broke a law
was unheard of.

They actually sided
with the law.

Imagine that!

This generation has produced
some of the best risk-takers
and problem solvers and
inventors, ever.

The past 50 years have
been an explosion of
innovation and new
ideas.

We had freedom, failure,
success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal
with it all.

And you're one of them!

Congratulations!

Please pass this on to others
who have had the luck to grow
up as kids, before lawyers
and government regulated our
lives, for our own good !!!!!

People under 30 are WIMPS !

Love your post...coming up on 60 in Nov if I don't kill myself B4 then! Remember every bit of this and would give up everything I have today...to return to those days! If there was one age I could be forever--it would be 17.

Great post! I remember riding a bicycle without a helmet. I know it's safer, but I'm sorry: you look like a pathetic geek in a helmet!

My favorite is rollerskaters/rollerbladers who wear helmets. You're doing 2 miles an hour at an altitude of 1 1/2 inches! Do you people put on a foot-thick foam-rubber jumpsuit to walk up a flight of stairs?

I remember all of this and I sure miss the freedom we had,
I always carried a pocket knife and no one cared, I even
took it to high school everyday and played split with my
friends. No one ever stabbed or shot any one in school
fist fights were about as bad as it got and I only
remember 1 during my high school years. No one told us
what we could or could not do to our cars either. Not
one parent was arrested for spanking there kids, or
washing out their mouths with soap, I ate Ivory once
when I disobeyed my dad. I dont miss that! We survived
on my dads income only as my mom did not work. My first
car came out of a junkyard not a dealer. Look at all
the kids driving new or almost new cars today, back then
(1965)very few kids had a new car. WOW have times changed.

I remember the jungle gyms were planted right on the asphalt parking lot...not rubber mats underneath! You fell, you knew it.

Lawn darts were sold.

Parents smoked like chimneys in the car with the windows shut.

You would lick brownie batter without fear of salmonella.

some poor kid--a 3yo, choked on popcorn in a local theatre the other day and died. They'll probably put a ban on popcorn sales to minors now. Everybody is trying to protect us from ourselves. Didn't need a helmet when I first started riding motorcycles, now most states make wearing them mandatory. Getting tired of big brother.

There's a great scene in the Chopper special where Jesse James and Kid Rock ride thru Mexico on choppers. they come to some famous hanging rock overlooking the Caspian Sea. they palyed on this big rock as it teetered back and forth...knowing one slip and they fall to their death....Kid Rock was scared to go out on the rock and Jesse was laughing..."WTF? Your name is KID ROCK ain't it? And you''re scared of a rock?"

Then Jesse amde a profound statemnt that if this rock was in the US, it would be roped off and no one could climb on it, but they could read a plaque next to it telling them how much their forefathers enjoyed playing on that rock....So true.

Our Gov. is to protect us, but not from ourselves!

As a 25 year old I take exception to the statement that all people under 30 are wimps, I grew up in a low income family in the country and I guess we did things a little differently.
My crib was a hand me down from the 60's, from my older siblings.
We didn't have cable tv, nintendo, or anything else fun to do in the house. We made our own forts as high in the trees as we could climb, falling a few times before we realized we were to high.
At 12 I was driving a grain truck sitting on the worlds thickest dictionary, I didn't get paid for it, it just came with being part of the family.
One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to dare my friends to eat things and see if they would puke, everyone survived.
I didn't even know kids were allowed in the front seat of a pickup until I was old enough to drive one.
THe only helmets we wore were homemade and thats if we knew we were gonna crash on purpose, usually into each other.
But I still think we had more fun than the rich city kids, all of there memories are filled with high scores in Mario Brothers, and times spent watching Nickelodeon.
Life is to be lived not viewed!!

Well, frozen prowler...perhaps the title is UNcool, but the post is great--I don't think 'she' was picking on YOU with her 'poor' choice of words for those under 30! My best friend just turned 30, and he is NO WIMP by any stretch o' the imagination! I realize your exception is to the word, WIMP...but some things ya' just gotta let go & consider the source, eh! Welcome to the board, brother! Your post was very well-written, as well! Please continue to post more!

I agree with Tytanium. The original post is a great one and not meant to pick on anyone in particular. The country has changed so much over the years. Our values unfortunately have also changed. We learned to appreciate the simple things in life years ago...not like today.
Anyway...have a good weekend everyone!

Geesh!!! What a GREAT Post!!!! Thanks for the wonderful memories that I cherish to this day!!! I wish all kids could have had the freedom I had. I don't mind being my age at all when I think of all I got to do compared to the kids today.

THANK YOU!!!!!
