Don't worry - I'm ok. My hard drive crashed this past week... totalled!! No worries though... saved the important stuff including the 2005 calendar pics and other files.
I am still working on getting back up to speed. My OS upgrade to Windows XP would not take when I tried to apply it to the hard drive image that I saved, so I still have to re-install a lot of stuff.
Restoring my PC has been my second full-time job for the last week.
Next time this happens, I will be better prepared. I will have a drive image backup that I can restore the next time things go south.
Seriously, though, you should consider buying additional hardware, like an external USB hard drive to back up images of your primary hard drive. In addition to virus attacks, hard drives sometimes physically fail. Image backups are the best last resort protection if anything happens and you can get back up to speed in hours instead of days (more than a week in my case).
You can back up on CD's too, but this can take a lot of time, swapping in and out CD's... If you're like me, this won't work, because if it's not convenient and too labor intensive, you won't do it. Get something with the capacity to handle backups conveniently.
An experienced Software Engineer colleague of mine recommends using PowerQuest Drive Image s/w... "PowerQuest Drive Image" will be incorporated into Symantec Ghost 9.0, which is supposed to be available in SEP 2004.
If there is disk image s/w that you know of that you like to use, I'd like to know what it is and why you prefer it.
