I am a Type-II Diabetic (which means No Insulin--yet) and was just wondering if I had any company--on this board? So far I control my blood/sugar numbers via diet AND weight loss...which seems to help! Wondering what tactics others use...as I just found out I am diabetic a year ago! Thx ------------------ Tytanium-K, Man of Metal -- '99 RED, Mostly Stock!

My doctor has not called me a diabetic at this point, but I keep track of my blood sugar numbers, if I do not watch what I eat they go way to high. when I was on the Dr. Atkins no carb diet they easily stayed in check. My doctor took me off that diet for other reasons. A good friend of mine is type II and still uses the diet to keep his #s in check. Barry

Four years ago for me. I still eat whatever I want and take glucophage twice a day. I am going to die anyway so I might as well enjoy something. I also have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a stent in my heart, acid reflux, allergic to everything so if I stuck to my diet, it would only be water and lettuce. Don't try this at home.

My 12 year old has had diabetes for over 9 years now. Has been on insulin the entire time. He is a Type-I which means his body produces no insulin at all. This is a disease that we know only too much about in this household. For the Type-IIs out there, diet and exercise are wonderful options. Some people swear by the Atkins diet for the lower carbs, but other things involved are not good for diabetics (the high fat). As with anything, moderation and portion control is key. This message has been edited by purplecat on 08-15-2004 at 03:30 PM

Very true Purple Cat...exercise n diet works wonders for me, esp losing weight! Your 12-yr-old probably doesn't need to do that, but it made the absolute MOST reduction in my B/S numbers! I'm only mentioning this IN CASE he might be slightly overweight! My numbers dropped radically, thus allowing me NOT to hafta monitor every single thing I eat now...which is a Godsend, as I love junk! Pizza, candy, other sweets! Thanks for sharing...I appreciate it! ------------------ Tytanium-K, Man of Metal -- '99 RED, Mostly Stock!

Add me to this list . . . found out in '96, been on oral meds for the past year. I've had eye problems due to it for the past 6 months, including 2 major operations on my left eye and 4 laser treatments on the right. Take care of yourself and find you a good doctor and a good eye dr.

I'm on this list also for the last 4 years. On meds from the VA, and trying to keep weight in tack. Dieting at almost 60 is hard also. Love to eat good food and loose weight at the same time doesn't go together. Watch my sugar levels daily.

My Dr. says I'm borderline type 2. Diet and exercise and daily monitoring have kept the numbers good. Cut out most sweets and switched to Splenda. Weight loss was the best (also retiring and staying away from the "goodies" that seemed to be everywhere). Dr.says high carbs are the worst because the body can't handle the sugar produced. The old adage of everything in moderation seems to work the best...can even have a Krispy Kreme once in a while without kicking the numbers out of reach.

this is a very bad thing do not under any conditions ignore it I found out back in the mid 90's with blood sugar over 450 at the time I was good with diet and all the things for a couple of years but I soon forgot about it back in June of this year I couldnt walk across the room with out haveing to rest couldnt mow the lawn couldnt sleep started loosing weight total over 30 lbs of muscle two weeks off work and went back with the threat of be ing replaced if I dint come back so I been back for two weeks and still cant handle it all, a week ago for three day very low blood sugar was stumbleing and falling in stores and walking on the sidewalk if the sun was bright I was like blinded from the white cars my wife had to drive everywhere, I guess I am going to have the dr see if he will put me out on disabilty and give up my job and mayby apply for SS medical retirement, I dont post much anymore becaus it is very hard for me to type, Im not telling you this for pity I just want to share with those who have it not to forget for even a minute because after a while it is easy to relax. This is a Killer watch out for you Lifecurtis block-buster ------------------
