Democratic Sen. John Kerry on Friday assailed President Bush's tax cuts as the latest congressional report showed that three rounds of reductions lowered taxes for the wealthy.

"Over the last four years, the burden of taxes has shifted from the wealthy to the middle class," the Democratic presidential nominee said at a front-porch event. "The middle class is paying more taxes."

I made it! I made it! I am now rich!!!!

My taxes have gone down and I even got a rebate check of $800 last year. I had no idea I was in the "rich" class.

Question Mr. Kerry, what did President Bush do to raise taxes on the middle class???????????

If he thinks President Bush raised taxes on the middle class, he should be mad as hell at clinton for his tax increase (the largest in the history of the world), Right???

Kerry is simply stating the facts as reported yesterday by the Congressional Budget Office. He didn't make this stuff up.

While we're talking about money, how do you like our record deficits? I don't think I'd get very far if I kept my checkbook like that!!! Hope all of our kids have good jobs so they can pay it off.

You mean the one that clinton completely paid off and then suddenly reappeared when President Bush took office? That one?

Here is a clue, so long as we have democrats in office, they will ALWAYS think of different ways to spend your money and need more of it every year.

When President Reagan lowered the tax rates, it spurred the economy and millions upon billions more went into the government tax coffers. Problem was, the democrats figured new and more pork to spend it on rather then reducing the deficit.

Democrats always use kids as the pawns. Do it for the children, let's take care of this so our children don't have to.

Problem is, regardless of what we as a nation do to reduce it, it will always continue to grow so long as washington doesn't learn the meaning of "stop spending my money stupid"

We are at war so pointing fingers about deficits is un-American but when you point your finger four are pointing back at you and Kerry has voted over and over not to fund the war so when he says Bush shifted taxes to the middle class it would be the same as saying that Kerry is shifting balancing the budget to the backs of the men and women who are risking their lives for us.

Surprised that the Republican's haven't gotten wise and run commercials like the current one for the Olymipcs ... seen em -- US track star in the blocks with no shoes, and other athelets competing without the "tools" they need to be effective ... I could see a commercial on the War the way Kerry would have it (voted for the war but not to fund it) soldiers over seas with no guns or ammo ... waging the "sensitive war" that Kerry would have had instead of the way Bush has chosen ... wonder who Kerry's intern will be if elected??!!

All I can say about that is the people in the military do not earn enough money. Many of them are on welfare assistance because they can't make ends meet. How they would be able to bear the burden of balance the budget is beyond me........many of them don't have enough money to balance their own checkbooks.

Actually, Mr. Miller, Kerry did make this stuff (i.e. the middle class paying more taxes) up. The New York Times -- not exactly a Republican-friendly publication -- said, "The report also gave Republicans support for their contention that tax reduction had brought some benefit to people in all income categories. People with the bottom fifth of income, for example, averaging earnings of $16,000 a year saw their effective tax rate drop to 5.2% from 6.7%. Yet because lower and many middle-income families have been paying very little federal income tax in the first place, those in that bottom fifth of earnings received an average tax cut of only $250."

In other words, the so-called rich are already picking up the vast majority of America's tax burden but nonetheless, the middle and lower income brackets both got a tax cut too.

Agreed. While military spending has increased due to the war, domestic spending has also increased and shouldn't have. Bush should not have signed the education bill that throws more tax payer money at our failed public indoctrina--er, sorry, education system. The prescription drug benefit for Medicare was also a terrible idea and one that young working families will be paying for for decades to come. Bush could have used the war as a rationale for domestic spending restraint, phasing out farm subsidies, privatizing education, Medicare, and Social Security, etc. He might have even revived the idea of a balanced budget amendment.

This is just another example of how both parties expand government and waste money.

I am sure the deficit is a record. It was a record back with Ike, Truman, Kennedy, and every president since then. What percent is it going up. It will continue to go up no matter who gets elected.

He wasn't balancing it with their money but cutting the budget by not funding the guns and ammo they need to fight the war in other words by voting not to provide what they need to fight the war Kerry voted to balance the budget with their lives not their money.

Yes I agree wholeheartedly that our service men and women are grossly under paid.

I hate deficits as much as anyone, but it's a different world we live in post 9/11 and if it's a choice between deficits and the risks of loss of this country and my family, I'll take deficits.

Geno - A picture is worth a thousand words - Thanks for the reminder.

Why is it that the Democrats hate President Bush so much. Is it that you all are afraid that the people like him for doing what is actually right for a change instead of constantly scamming people for political gain.

Yea I'm for Bush and proud of it!
