It alters the signal from whatever particular sensor it is in line with which causes the PCM to think something is different then it really is, like air flow or throttle position etc. I have read about them on other sites and they generally don't work although I have heard they decrease fuel mileage quite well.

It's garbage. All you're doing is tricking the ECM into thinking it's a different temperature outside, thus changing the Air/Fuel ratio. |
