TOO HOT FOR ARIZONA CONVICTS ???

It's even hotter than usual in Phoenix, 116 degrees sets a new
record, the Associated Press reports:

About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment
at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to
their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on
their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees
inside the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as
sweat
collected on their chests.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate
who has lived in the tents for 1 1/2 years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and
long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna
sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic.

He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120
degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, in full
military
gear and they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your @#$&%$ mouths. "

KIND OF PUTS THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE DOESN'T IT?

YA GOTTA LOVE THIS SHERIFF...

I live in Phx. two different times and I could not stand the heat. Dont get me wrong I love warm weather but 122 is way to much. In 1988 for 7 months the temp was over 100. The warm nights driving with the top down is real nice...

Geno - Sheriff Joe claims to be the toughest sheriff in the U.S. The inmates are also served cooked 'road kill elk' from the Az mountain areas. Joe informs all the inmates that his jail is "Not the Hilton" and when they leave there,,,,,they don't want to return.

JC - come on,,,it's a dry heat! If it was that bad here, why is Phx. the fifth largest city now? 4 million people might disagree with you, but that is OK,,,,stay put in California - they need your tax revenues, lol.

Well, we have been here for 12 years now, the first 8 I couldn't stand it but now I love it here. We sit outside almost every night. Last night it was 98 when we sat out there and it was so pleasant. Sheriff Joe is very hard but I think he's great!!!
