Definitely a classic......to be remembered! What would jazz be today without him around? |

Love his music. Karen & I attended a concert of his about 3 months ago. The concert was a disappointment but, his music will live on forever... |

One of the many trivia notes about Ray Charles is that he is the ONLY artist in recording history to have charted in the Top 20 for five CONTINUOUS decades. From 1955's "I gotta Woman" to 1993's "This is your song" (w/ Billy Joel). Not even Sinatra comes close. Hoagy Carmichael may have written "Georgia" back in the late thirties, but it was Brother Ray's version that brought it to the social conscienceness in 1960. Seventeen years later, it became the ONLY song from the Rock era to have ever become a State song by proclimation of a State legislature. For a taste of Ray at his best, buy the 1962 landmark album Ed Weichsler |
