Love his music.

Karen & I attended a concert of his about 3 months ago. The concert was a disappointment but, his music will live on forever...

One of the many trivia notes about Ray Charles is that he is the ONLY artist in recording history to have charted in the Top 20 for five CONTINUOUS decades. From 1955's "I gotta Woman" to 1993's "This is your song" (w/ Billy Joel).
Not even Sinatra comes close.

Hoagy Carmichael may have written "Georgia" back in the late thirties, but it was Brother Ray's version that brought it to the social conscienceness in 1960. Seventeen years later, it became the ONLY song from the Rock era to have ever become a State song by proclimation of a State legislature.

For a taste of Ray at his best, buy the 1962 landmark album
"Modern Sounds of Country & Western Music". Ray ignored the advise of all his advisors, incl. manager, business agent, & his record label (ABC Paramount). "If I lose some fans, I just might gain more than I lose." The album ended up spending two years on the Pop album chart & 14 weeks in that coveted #1 position. For a 31 year old artist to break that kind of ground in a music stream so populated by teen idols was unheard of. Those of us who grew up listening to his genius found a peace & contentment just by closing our eyes & taking it all in. This human race was truly blessed by his existance. He saw more than we (collectivly) EVER will.
God Bless you Brother Ray as he has blessed us with you.
