The newest car to be used by Italian Police is seen in this photo made available by Italian police Thursday, May, 13, 2004. This high performance 2-seater Laborghini Gallardo car, using a V10 cylinder DOHC four valve V90 5 liter, 500 Hp engine, can reach the top speed of 309 km/h (192 Mph). The car, received by Italian Police as a gift from the Italian car factory, will be used along highways in southern Italy. (AP Photo/Italian Police)

Me thinks you've been had. A $200K police car? No place to put anyone they arrest. No place for all the police gear. And incredibly high maintanence costs to boot. Can just see them using it to bump a speeding car off the road.

Their money would be better spent selling it and buying 20 police cars.

Just heard them say something about this on a radio station a few minutes ago. They said that when it's not being used for speed enforcement, they will be doing hospital runs with organs for transplant!

And I drive an unmarked F-150! I feel cheated!

And they will drive this in southern Italy ??

The roads in southern Italy are SO bad that this bullet will fall apart in a matter of 2 weeks !!

Just read the link DBudner provided - what a shame to waste a wonderful car like this this !

YellowFever is right - for this Money they could buy the "Polizia" at least 20 or 30 Fiats or maybe 10 or 15 Alfa Romeos !

Gee, I wonder if it is a marketing ploy to get free publicity around the world!

Joe thanks for sharing this. Wow using it for speedy organ transplants is a noble use. If I was in need of a donor organ stat, it would be comforting to know it was coming via Lambo!

Ed I agree.

YF A dear old friend once told me that there are people in this world that if given a million dollars would whine because they had to count it and put it in little bags.

Joe it amazes me how sharing a harmless story can bring about so much negative press. But I did enjoy the story.

I think "Life Flight" would probably be alot faster in moving organs like they do over here. With traffic the way it is in most major cities, even if the car can do 5000 mph, not much good in rush hour traffic.

If you read closely, the car was a gift from the factory...obviously a promo gimmick...

Whether the police can effectively use it is another question..

Yes, a great promotion gag from the Audi group!
Was in all newspapers around the world.
Normally the Italian highway police drive Lancia.
The autostrada (highway) Salerno - Reggio Calabria is known for auto rowdys and as a highspeed-street. To bad for the Italian Mafia.
Here are more pics from the Lambo:

Roman - the "Carabinieri" logo is to big for the small Lambo doors, but we should ask the Italian highway police about a job.

That would be a great semi retirement job in a few years-maybe we can get them to put a few Prowlers on the road for us...

Roman, if you sponsored the Italian police with your Prowler as a gift, I will drive down to Italy and ask about our semi retirement job.
Maybe if we got no highway police job, I will ask about a beach police job - think about the wonderful beaches and the wonderful Italian girls.
