At 7:20am MST today, a twin engine Piper plane came tumbling down onto the desert floor at the Daimler/Chrysler Proving Grounds in the far northwest Phoenix area. A DC test driver was the only person to see the plane tumbling towards the ground, but he wasn't close to the crash site. He called 911 to report what he had seen and heard (loud explosion). Two tv helicopters few over the area but didn't see anything. Finally, some DC employees went out to find the crashed plane on the far perimeter of their property, along a remote road near a wash area. Three young men, all in their early 20's, died in the crash. The accident is under FAA investigation at this time.
