The U.S. Energy Department expects gasoline prices to peak in June at about $1.80 for a gallon of regular unleaded and then gradually decline through the summer - with possible price spikes along the way, according to the department's latest monthly forecast. That's slightly lower than last month's forecast, which called for peak prices of $1.83 cents a gallon.
The April outlook predicts that gasoline prices will average $1.76 a gallon for the full year - 20 cents higher than last year, and two cents higher than the average projected in the department's March report.
Summer gasoline demand is expected to hit a record 9.32 million barrels per day, up 2.2 percent from last year. U.S. gasoline production is projected to reach a summer record of 8.46 million barrels per day, up 2.4 percent from last year. The shortfall will be made up by imports of some 864,000 barrels per day, up 2 percent from last summer, according to the latest monthly forecast.

Three of my buddies and I went to my dad's car lot and got the keys to one of the used cars to run one night. Low on gas. Pooled all our cash. $1.37. Went to the discount (Imperial) station. $0.19.9 per gallon. Ran all night on $1.37. Ahhhhh youth.

I remember gas wars in the late 60's and a couple of gas stations got down to .19 a gallon for a week or so. Normal prices at cut rate stations then were in the upper 20's.

Mav- I would not run mine with anything other than premium since I have modified the engine and have no knock sensor either. I have heard of some running the middle grade but if you plan to run the car hard at all and do any aggressive driving I would suggest staying with Premium.

If you only drive it weekends or occassionly you will not be spending a lot anyway. If you drive it daily and are tempted on occassion to run it hard - stick with the 92 or 93 Octane.

I run regular 90 percent of the time unless I'm towing my trailer or doing some performance driving.
No ill effects whatsoever for (two different cars) over 100,000 happy smilin' miles.

Idive....

Don't put too much faith in what the government says. I work for the refining side of an oil company, and that's not what I'm hearing.

I've been told to expect $3.00 a gallon gas on both coasts and the Chicago area for most of the summer? Non EPA mandated Super-blends of reglar gasoline may be two or three bits less for inland market areas?

I hope you're right...

Thanks Marty, I fully intend to stick with the premium gas, but was just wondering if anyone did in fact use regular gas. After reading the replies, I'm convinced to use premium as the manual suggests. I don't drive it that hard, or daily, but I do enjoy kicking it in the *** occasionally.....

Gas prices are certainly rising all the time.
Does anyone actually tally up the bill at the end of the month to see how much money was spent on gas in the household(between all the cars, bikes, boats etc)?
Mine is astronomical!

Must be older still... I remember 19c gas wars down in SE TExas growin' up
some of my first 'regular' jobs paid $3-$5 daily, then my first 'real' job at the ripe old age of 14 paid 35c/hr.

First car/note... 1956 Chev... $18 month... total cost $300... just a 10 yr old chevrolet back then

Geno - got you beat. Remember gas at 15 cents a gallon,,,10 cents during gas wars! First car, '51 Olds with rebuilt engine and tranny, $75 total price,,,,,car insurance for it = $23.00 for six months. Second car, '49 Ford, $50. Camels/Lucky Strikes 17 cents a pack, PallMall 19 cents a pack. How many remember 15 cent McDonald's burgers and fries, and a dime for a coke there. 5 cent bottles of Coke in machines......................

A little off the subject, but while on nostalgic prices....

When I was in college ('72-'77) a local package store ran a combo special where you could get a case of Busch beer and your choice a pack of Marlboros or a bag of Doritos for $10!
