The '01 Vette I recently had converted into a 1953 C5 is running out of warranty....I called my local DC dealer about some other business and mentioned I was going to the local Chevy dealer to get an extended warranty for the Vette...the DC business manager called me back to inform me they can sell a Chrysler warranty for my Vette, still allowing it to be repaired at any Chevy dealer OR any DC dealer....their price was about half of the GM price for more time and more miles....anyone ever hear of this, a DC extended warranty for a Corvette, or any other non DC car for that matter ???

I would be careful about this one. I bet it isn't a DC company policy. It sounds like a third party company. Sometimes they work out. Usually a much bigger hassle to have warrantee work done. and paid for by the ins. company. There is a past history of these insurance companies selling a bunch of these policies and then running off with the money. They go out of business, then reopen another company under a diff name, and then start over. A lot of the time the repairs have to be pre-approved. A lot of horror stories about some of these companies. That said: My daughter got talked into one of these policies. I advised against it, but my son-in-law went on and bought it. As and example of how good my advice is. The engine went out. The warrantee finally covered a new engine. A lot of hassle, but they covered nearly the whole bill. Later though, the company did go out of business. But after my daughter got her money. Oh well. Tough call. I wouldn't invest in one, but, you see how much my advice is. Good luck.

Even DC extended warranties on our Prlwers are really provided by third party companies. THe service manager at a DC dealer has to get aproval from an outside rep for anything over a certain dolar amount even on things they may have covered under the factory warranty. that's why DC dealer will sell a policyon a vette - the stil make t commision on te sale. ary - If you like te terms of the po 'd say go for it.
