Richard, Andy and myself went to a Chevy dealer and looked at the SSRs. They had a yellow and a black one. I had seen pictures of them and was not impressed. After seeing them in person I changed my mind. The black one was outstanding. The yellow one is okay but the Black looks great. Sticker is about $ 47,000 and of course they want $ 5 to 10 over that, at this point. The bed is about 2 feet high, by 2 1/2 or 3 feet wide and maybe 5 feet long. You won't be hauling much with it. Totally impractical as a truck but radically different. We had to pull Richard out of there kicking and screaming. He kept reaching for his wallet. If it would have had another gadget or two, he would have bought it on the spot. lol.

...I saw a yellow one in Scottsdale a month or so ago at a dealership.....wanted MSRP plus $10K market adjustment....saw a yellow one in traffic in Vegas recently....found a red one sitting in a mall parking lot today in Muncie In......I liked the red better than any color I have seen yet......a dealer from Mo. called me 2 weeks ago wanting to unload his two at slightly below MSRP....I think they will drop quickly, overweight and underpowered the mags all say....MSRP plus $10K market adjustment =$55K ..... the same as a 2005 Vette, or a slightly used Viper GTS, or maybe 2 Prowlers if you shop right, a Viper SRT10 pickup.....no tough decision for me....

I looked at a black one here in town two weeks ago. I was tempted to buy it, but I decided against buying another vehicle. I think it needs something along those long sides. It seemed a little plain to me, maybe some pinstripes or something to highlight it.This message has been edited by Dave Mills on 02-29-2004 at 06:26 AM

Yea, Sure Dave you would buy it...........it is a Chevy AND you would have to get approval from upper management......LOL if I remember correctly upper management AKA Brenda wants a Vette

Ed, we should have one of the SSR's attending the Texas Stampede! It is a Yellow one with all the bell's and whistle's.. ------------------ Fred J. Henkel "My Kitty's bottle fed!" http://www.lordofthelooks.com

Larry: I didn't say WHY I decided not to buy it, but upper management definitely had a voice in my decision!

Saw one last weekend. It was Prowler Purple and looked like a real nice $35K ride. Of course, they wanted something like $54K for it so, I told them I'd just enjoy looking at it from the freeway. When will these dealers learn?????

Ed - tell Richard Rebecca's dealership - Montgomery - in Louisville has a new Silver SSR in the showroom now. They also just came out with Purple as there was one on the delivery truck when the silver was delivered. I have only seen a red one on the road. The bed may not be practical compared to normal truck but you wouldn't need a trailer to pull behind you to haul luggage. I'll stick with my Prowler but wouldn't mind having an SSR as my daily driver. Marty ------------------ 2000 Black with hand painted blue faded to purple flames

There are plenty of dealers selling for MSRP and a few for less. Silver has to be one of the best colors for the SSR, I think it would look even better with a set of Budnik X series wheels.Al

It is a great looking vehicle, but it will not be a limited production. As the production increases the dealers will be ready to deal. Look at the new T-Bird prices now, as opposed to last summer. Same will occur in time for the SSR.

I agree with CJ. From the door handles rearward it is too bulky and big. Richard

I saw a red one in local dealer a few months ago. Its really sharp and i would love one. But i'll wait and see if they put a bigger motor in it. its around 6000 lbs. The hood weights a ton. Its very heavy vehicle.------------------

I saw an article in the Feb. issue of motor Trend that they may come out with an SSR panel truck next year. That sounded kind of wild. I can't see the price for a truck that isn't a truck.

I saw it at the North American Autoshow and kind of liked it but Chevy made a mistake parking it close to the 05 Vette. For the same price which would you choose - the Vette! My wife saw one yesterday and really liked it and I told her to get one to replace her current car. She said no because it wasn't a convertible (that's all she will own)! When I told her it was and the top folded behind the seat she said she LIKED IT! I told her to wait for the 2005 Mustang convertible because we really need a back seat for the grandchildren.

It is pretty big, approx 4700lbs. It's based on the Trailblazer frame. Has an aluminum version of GM 5.3L - 300hp. I really like it. I think I'll like the silver the best so far (have only seen Red, Black, Yellow in person). SSR pictures and videos This message has been edited by Andy R on 02-29-2004 at 08:29 PM

Andy - they have a Silver in the showroom at the dealer where Rebecca's works. The Sales Manager said he would "entertain all offers" but if you ask they have it priced at $50K I believe. GUess they figure they can always come down. The Silver is a 2004. They also have a Red 2003, production number eight hunderd something.

I've liked the SSR from the beginning. I never compared the SSR to the Prowler as they are too different from each other. But they both are American retro/new vehicles and that lights my fire. They both look great parked side by side. It would be great to have the SSR and T-Bird sitting on both sides of my Kat. (note to self: never ever give up on a dream.....okay throw in the Countach as well) Jeff

Black is definitely the color for that car(or truck,I guess)and it is a step in the right direction for G.M. but it is only available in automatic transmission and weighs a ton just screaming for a little more H.P. Retractable roof and the interior layout is quite neat, though!
