Andy is still shown on the local CBS affilate at 5:30 pm each weekday before the local news. Highest rating of any 5:30 show in this market. Maybe it's a North Carolina thing. Mayberry Days is held each October in Mt. Airy, NC (Andy's hometown). Most of the stars from the show show up. 25 cent movies, 5 cent orange/grape Nehis, etc. Pork Chop sandwiches at Snappy Lunch are still very popular. We try and get our kids to watch and hopefully catch the moral at the end of the show. I sometimes laugh when I get stumped on some of my son's questions much like the Andy/Opie exchanges. My son even has facial freckles on his cheeks like Ron Howard. I wish he had Howard's bankroll! I'm 50, so I can relate to you guys. ------------------ |

RR,TUIB and RC do you remember Sea Hunt with LLoyd Bridges starring as Mike Nelson? I actually got my scuba certification because of that show. That is one of the few shows I haven't seen repeated. The shows that you guys mentioned were all GREAT as well as Sky King and Flipper. What a great era Viva la TVLAND. Jeff This message has been edited by SirReal on 02-16-2004 at 05:07 PM |

How about those thrilling days of old with the Lone Ranger and Tonto, or Saturdays with Flash Gordon against Ming the Merciless. Very early television but great television.

RR I am really glad ou did. Nothing like truckin' down memory lane.....Sky King brought to you by Nabisco. TUIB let us not forget Grandfather Clock...Was saddened by the passing of the Capt. Little Rascals (with Spanky) was on my list as well. LR ah yes the Lone Ranger! We really did have some great role models didn't we? EM, also Bat Masterson He had that cool belt that had the derringer in the belt buckle. Of course I had to have one for Christmas. You just pushed out your stomach and the derringer would swing out and fire. I can't tell you how many times I shot my sister.lol Turns out I have no interest in firearms now. AC Thanks I had forgotten about the Cisco Kid. RR thanks again! Jeff |

As long as everyone is stumbling along down memory lane, does anyone remember in the late 50's (maybe really early 60's) a show on KTLA Channel 5 here in Los Angeles that was hosted by two twin brothers - one was a scuba diver and the other was a surfer, and every week they would alternate scuba and surf footage from (as my son likes to say) "back in the day"??? And what about Soupy Sales, The Rifleman, and that western about a soldier that got drummed out of the service and then went around righting wrongs? What was the name of that, anyway? He used to carry a sawed-off lever action carbine called a "mare's leg" as his trademark?? And all the rock and roll shows: Groovy at the Beach, The Lloyd Thaxton Show, Shindig, Hullabaloo, and the one that was hosted by DJ Sam Riddle??? Damn, this thread is making feel OLD - REALLY, REALLY OLD!!! |
