A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present "Seven Wonders of the World."

Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not finished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my
mind because there were so many."

The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help." The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the 'Seven Wonders of the World' are:

1. To see
2. to hear
3. to touch
4. to taste
5. to feel
6. to laugh
7. and to love."

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted are truly wondrous! A gentle reminder -- that the most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man.

Puts things into perspective, doesn't it?

I'm guessing you and Bob experianced those 7 wonders the last 10 days having Brian home. Makes you really start to think locally rather than globally.

I think I know what her struggle was... There is one missing and no room for it in the list... To speak...
When I was little, my big brother was a cub scout. I got to go along on some of their meets and learn too. One of the things they learned was sign language. I was only about 5 or 6, but it's incredible what you can remember as a child. When I was about 10, I met a guy at a gathering that was a deaf mute. We could only communicate with him thru sign language. Our parents didn't want us to leave him out of things. We all made an effort on our own, and did pretty good, but that one time, I got to use sign language, and he signed back, and we understood each other. Many years went by without signing again. Then one memorial day weekend when I was about 35, I was on the river in a tube and saw someone signing. I interrupted their conversation and he was so elated at someone else on the river signing to him, we had quite a conversation going down the river. We ended up in the same truck on the return trip and signed more then. Everyone else in the truck could speak, but nobody said a word. They had no idea what we had said, yet were in awe at our ability to understand one another. Probably one of the most basic wonders a human possesses is the ability to communicate, and its all too often taken for granted. Much like the other wonders in her list.
