Here's note from Allen Warringer member of our Big Easy Mopar Club.

Thought some of you might enjoy. Here's the note from Member ride in our newsletter. And, he's going be out at our drags on Feb. 29th...

"This was my second car that I bought, The first was a 1971 383 road runner (wish I could find it now). I bought this car in 1976 from my best friend for 400.00. It was a 1970 AAR 'CUDA 340 6bbl auto in great shape (guess so it was only 6 years old) The. engine had a rod hanging out of the side so we pulled it and threw it away. I had big plans to make it the fastest full body CUDA in the state. The car was striped and sent to Charles "BOOGIE" SCOTTs chassis shop in Abita springs. The car sat there from 1977 to 1987. Anybody that knows Boogie knows how slow he his. Family, business, etc., got in the way but in 1988 the car was picked up and started on again. We sandblasted it, painted it, and put a mild 440 in it. Our first pass was at Gulfport dragway in 1989 and was an 11.53. We got serious and put a 512" big block in it and dropped down to the 9.70s. One step further and around 1994 we put one of the first 499" indy cylinder head motors in and she ran her best of 9.10@148 Mph. we were finally the fastest CUDA in the state. The car continued to be raced in super gas and super street doing well in the NHRA Div. 4 class. Early last year at the O'Reilly nationals in Houston the engine let loose at the finish line (the same 499" ten year old engine) and oil got under the right side tires and it hit the wall at about 135mph. The driver Herb Champagne, was not scratched but the front end of the car was a mess. We cut the front end off a challenger, welded it on and put the car back together. Our first race will be at the Big Easy Mopar/Prowler Versus them race on Feb. 29th BE THERE."
