Well, we do have our warm days here in New Mexico but in the winter we can get cold at night and January is sometimes real cold. Generally its nice. We just got an increase in our gas rates. We were paying around $2 a decatherm (unit of measurement for gas usage). Bam it went up to $5.72/$1.87sc for a grand total of $7.59. So it actually tripled. So how are the prices in the cold areas. I guess Pat and I will share a sleeping blanket, well, that's not a bad idea.

On our coldest month we used 7 dct which includes heating the water, so who out their in Prowler land uses more?

Seeing as how everything in our casa is gas (appliances, ac/heaters(3), 4 fire places, outdoor kitchen, pool heater, California pit,....), I shudder to think how high it can go. Last year saw a few months over $1000.00

Hey Pumpkins We have a deal out here on gas...no charge! We don't use gas because everything around here pretty much runs on electricity. Our bill will average around $110.00 per month. That's the heating, cooling, cooking etc. I don't think that's such a bad deal for a house around 3800 square feet. Jim

I read that natural gas will have big fluctuations this year. I opted to stay with the dino fuel for heat and hot water for that reason--plus we wont be subject to service outage in case of a broken line. 4 of my neighbors switched over with the offer of a free unit to do so...they'll be feeling the pinch also. Eat beans and bottle the byproduct.

Here in NH, we pay by the therm -- I assume that your decatherm = 10 therms. If so, our rate is just a bit higher -- Gas and delivery charge comes to about $11.25 (That's an approximate because the delivery charge goes down from about 30 cents to 17 cents per therm after about 113 therms.) I go through about 1100 therms a year for heat, hot water, and cooking. And that's really not too bad, by the way, because it averages just over $100 a month. My electricity runs about the same, averaging just under $100 a month. And I've always complained about the electric rates, but CT makes me think I'm getting a heck of a deal!!
