I'm thinking pretty seriously about buying one of these, can anyone who owns one give me any feed back on them. I don't want to buy a super gas hog and not interested in the new diesel. After having to shovel snow for a week to get my PT out of my yard, a 4x4 is looking like it needs to be back in my yard. I've always been a Chevy 4x4 guy sold my 2001 quad dr HD 2500 and got the PT I luv it but miss my truck, my dealer just gave me the price for an SLT with the cert discount price $36,245.00 Canuck bucks. Appreciate any info Thks PK

The hemi is sorta a gas hog, I have heard this from a source here,Dude the diesel is so quiet and powerful you will have a motor that will easily run 500,000 miles I LOVE MY DIESEL TRUCK, All you have to do is a couple of things for winter, Lund cold kit some fuel additive for gelling below 20F plug in the motor, you can use a timer

My uncle sold his saying it used too much gas. He only drove it around town and had his foot in it alot. He also trades every 6~12 months, so maybe just an excuse. They are not the most fuel conserving engines, but you have to look at what the output is. For a driver not towing, it is overkill. If you want a truck to get better mileage and are just driving it get the magnum with the best MPG rating. To say you have a HEMI....go for it and buy the extra fuel to say you have it, and if you want to tow your town with you, get a BIG CHAIN

I have a 2003 Hemi quad cab 4X2. It gets around 14-15 MPG around town. 17-19 MPG Highway. Pulling a 24 ft enclosed trailer with Prowler inside it gets 8-9 MPG running 70 - 80 MPH. As you can see I have a heavy foot and it has no problem pulling a load. I didn't buy it expecting good gas mileage. Oh yeah they recommend you run plus gasoline not premium. This message has been edited by BeWare on 01-10-2004 at 06:09 PM

The new Hemi is in no way a gas hog. I get 20 mpg on the highway and 17 combined in the 04 4x4 Durango. I drove a hemi ram 4x2 for the last three days and got similar results. Granted my driving is mostly highway but this is so much better than the 5.9 I cannot believe it. DC hit a home run with this one. I think you will like it. Oh, it's quick, very quick. Gordon

There is a hinge on the gas pedal, you mileage may vary, some of the diesel guys complain about mileage but if you stay off boost You'll get 23 on the road like I do or like the lead foot race around town get 10 or 11.......

Thanks for all the replies Gary the new Cummins is definitely more quite than the previous one and more torque I'm sure, I spent 30 years pumping diesel into logging machines and logging trucks I was running I've smelt enough diesel to last me 10 lifetimes, also I know from the past one drop on your clothes or hands smells like you rolled in the damm stuff lol and we don't have that many full service stations out here so I can just here my lovely wife's comments if she had to fuel it up and let me tell you life it to short for that now I'm on the down hill side as it is. The 5.9 scared me away I have some friends that leased their Rams and they say you almost tow the gas station behind you. I have drove the Hemi very impressive and being a 53 yr old almost senior I plan to drive slower each year having the Hemi will be a challenge to keep the "HINDGE" in the right position a lot of my driving is shorter distances in semi town scenarios.CJ once again thankyou for the offer I will take you up on it when the lease hates decline a bit more 7.9% on it right now and that tooo big a spread from 0% purchase. Oh yah I just seen my first Crossfire Nice I like it they have just started to come this side of the border, it's white with a 6 spd, will take it for a drive monday or tuesday. It's definitely is a head turner I like how they did the trim and the wheels and dash to match very cool mind you I like white big time I think the coolest colored Kat is Jerry S's (White Hot) :d; PK

I have the '02 5.9 and I'm lucky to see 11 mpg. But my brother bought the '03 Hemi and gets 14-16. Neither of us drive them easy. The 4.7 is also a good engine with I think 235 hp.The only real complaint I have is with the seats. There just doesn't seem to be enough padding to keep from feeling the hard frame on the outside edge of the seat. This becomes very irritating. Hopefulluy they have corrected that problem. ------------------ Gary K

Something to consider, with most diesels, you can chip the engine and get another 45-60 hp. Makes a significant difference. More so with diesels then gas engines (I have no idea why).

Rich, I think MD was talking about the 4.7 YF, Diesel more fuel more power, diesels are easy to make power
