....I have two cars that went way beyond the call of duty.....I used to put a lot of miles on cars due to my work.....that has obviously ended several years ago....

*** runner up....'84 Mustang GT conv.....drove it to almost 170K miles with no repairs to speak of....coming home one day I heard a loud chattering noise, then I saw something in the rear view mirror fly away, the trunk lid had rusted out around the screw holes holding it on and at high speed that day it finally just blew off....I backed up the side of the interstate a good distance, loaded up my trunk lid and went home....sold the car shortly after that incident......

*** the best car probably was a '91 Dodge Spirit....I virtually lived in that car for a few years.....logged 199,950 miles when I parked it.....engine never touched....tranny serviced at 140K miles.....one set of tires at 100K miles(yes, it got 98K on the rears and 101K on the fronts, it needed another set when I quit driving it.....same exhaust, never replaced....water pump once along the line and lots of oil changes, every 3-4K miles......I retired the car, then my son drove the car to college(with new tires) for a couple of years to save mileage on his new Jeep......it turned into the "party" car.....it went where no other car wanted to go.....finally sold it for $300 and it is still on the streets of New Castle everyday....when we have deep snow the city trucks just plow one strip down our street sometimes leaving large piles of snow along the curb...due to its' "jeep like"characteristics, I would go out and "plow" the snow down to bumper height with the Spirit.....it never let me down in the years I drove it.....and I had bought it used to boot....it had been a "program" car and had 7K miles on it when I bought it......the car was plain to look at, the paint peeled off, it lost 3 hubcaps, cracked tail light from an altercation with a semi( I won) and had a huge hole in the plastic grill from someones foot.....but it sure was dependable....

Not a car in this situation, but a pickup. 1983 Toyota, 2X2, 22R 4 banger, with an automatic/w overdrive. Put on over 200,000 miles on it and couldn't wear it out! Replaced one alternator, one radiator hose, and one set on tires. Pulled my 19 ft. boat with it, all over Arizona. Was told that the 4 banger with a automatic wouldn't pull the boat up to higher elevations,,,,it did it. Put a cabover camper on it and traveled all over the country with it. When Toyota was making those high mileage truck claim ads for tv, I was ready to film it but turned it over to my 16 yr old step-son who proceeded to take it off-road and rolled it over on its side. Guess I forgot to tell him it wasn't a 4X4. Best $4800 I ever spent on a vehicle.

Hate to do another truck but it was my best. A 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser. Actually bought it used in 1992 from a friend with about 20,000 miles on it..When i sold it to buy my Lexus LX470 it had over 230,000 miles on it. You could not "kill" that car. Other than tires, and frequent oil changes NO major repairs except for a bent push rod. Sold to a fellow that worked for me and my understanding is the truck is still alive and well somewhere around Atlanta Georgia.

1992 Chevrolet Cavalier. Bought it new in '92 and it had 200,000 miles on it when I sold it in 1996...one set of tires, one set of brakes, both at 102K and absolutely nothing else except routine oil & filter changes. The car was a "stripper" from the factory, but couldn't have asked for a better vehicle.

Value wise was a 1987 Vette. Bought it for $20000 used with 4000 miles. Sold it 4 years later with 16000 for $22000! I've owned over 50 cars and never had a bad one. The most miles ever put on one was my wifes 1st year Madza 626 125000 miles only changed the oil! If you only keep them a year or 2 your not going to run into many problems

We have rarely kept a car more than 2 or 3 years if you don't count the "collector" cars, but my favorite was my 1989 Dodge Spirit, 4-speed turbo. I kept that one for five years.

My 1st choice would have to be the 99' Corvette (blue) C5 Coupe due to the speed and performance and my 2nd would have to be the 02' Prowler (yellow) for it's unique style and appearance. Miss the Vette that much that I am considering the new C6 style for 05'.

is it a car or is it a truck

My `83 el Camino 5.7 lt diesel (yes factory) it was 5 years old with 140,000 miles. I drove it 100,000 miles (240,000 miles when sold) bought it for $2,500 sold it for $1,400. I had to do a few things to it but really was a great vehicle.

new it got 29 mpg and when it I sold it with almost no compression still would get 22 ~23 MPG

73 camaro - I bought it used for my 18th birthday to myself in 77. It was my dream car back then. I had it 8 days and a trash truck ran a stop sign, pulled out in front of me, and stopped, blocking both lanes. I T-boned him and totalled it. He had no insurance.
My next car was just transportation - a 70 cutlas. I bought it with 75K miles on it and sold it to the Texas Stuntmen's Assn. for $200 with 144K miles on it. They T-boned it. Always drove it like I stole it. My best friend drove me home drunk one night and hit a parked car. It was broadsided by a cop pulling out of his driveway while I was in taking a dump. He still found a way to say it was my fault. Was broadsided by a motorcycle. Backed into a pole in pouring rain. I worked on that car daily, whether it was stereo upgrades, re-building the carb, or whatever. The last time I drove it, I did 100mph down the beach. It went thru alot but was always trustworthy.
87 S-10 Blazer - bought new. Dogged it too. took it offroad alot. It never failed me. The only problems I had with it: 1 belt replacement, 1 battery replacement, and tranny went out at 98K miles, under 100K mile warranty. Was replaced with a new tranny, not rebuilt. At 147K miles, in 99, a guy ran a light and T-boned me, totalling it. (See a pattern here?)

My 1993 red Mitsubishi 3000GT. Bought it new off the showroom floor on February 13. 1993. Still going strong with 145,000 miles on it. Don't get to drive it too much anymore, 1000 miles a week in the company car - lucky to put on 25 a week in the 3000GT. Replaced clutch & brakes at 90,000 miles, computer and water pump at 125,000. Only other things is regularly scheduled maintenance. People on the street ask me if I want to sell it all the time. Go figure!

This may sound crazy, but one of the cars I've never put any money into which I also enjoied driving was a 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT with a 2.8L V6.Sold it a while back and probably should have kept it.I see some bringing in decent money right now that are kept nice.
The worst investment,on the other hand was a Jag XJ12 which just kept breaking and breaking all the time.

AC - every 11 years, I have a bad wreck... 77, 88, and 99. None of them were my fault. All were caused by people running a controlled intersection. I decided to take the S-10 instead of the Prowler, at literally the last second, the time that it got hit. I'm not driving the Prowler at all in 2010! My head, neck, and back can't take any more.

My cats are my favorite cars, but I sure wish we still had the 1969 Chevy Super Sport with the 460 in. motor....and it was the only car we had at the time!!

Until my Prowler my two favorite cars were two 68 Chargers; one with a 383 and the other with 440. Blew the doors off several 396 Chevelles but got creamed by a Goat. Also had a 73 Corolla that ran forever.
