Tony Buono is in for the Holidays visiting us along with my daughter Angelle. After the track day on Monday, my brother Sidney invited us out for a little time on the water. We launched onto Blind River down here in the Bayou cruising to Petit Amite and Diversion Canal for a little ride in his 20' STV with 2.5 Mercruiser (285 HP).

We had five of us in the boat and got up to 98 mph... That's the fastest I've ever been on water... My nephew has gotten up to 110 mph alone in the boat... The boat handle great and it was a very comfortable ride... Tony and I had a good time Prowlin' the bayou in a boat...

Here's some pics...

The launch from St. James boat launch...

Here's a self portrait while we were going about 70 mph...
Sidney (my brother), my cousin Vinnie (my nephew) & me...

Here's 98 mph. I thought we got to 100 mph. Matt my nephew and driver has gotten it up to 110 mph alone in boat. We had five pretty good size guys in the boat today...

My brother Sidney and cousin Vinnie - a little wind blown...

Here's Tony & Sidney a little wind blown...

Pretty neat. Rainbow in the Rooster tail.... I noticed several times I saw a rainbow in the rooster tail depending on our position to the Sun. Tough to capture but it's there...

Here's my nephew Matt (Sidney's son & our driver today) after we had made it back to the launch...

When I lived in Utah I owned an 18ft Tahiti, with a 460 cubic inch Ford motor. It had a high rise intake manifold, This is a shallow hull ski boat that seated 5 people. It had an gas pedal instead of a throttle. I did not have an speedometer on it but when I bought it I was told it was capable of doing at least a 100. Many other boats tried to keep up but no one ever could. I would let them pull along side and then wave and leave them in my wake. With no windshield it was hard to see. I could turm it so sharp I could drag the outside passengers elbow in the water. What a blast.

Laddie, you've got more hair then me! Quite a few years ago, I was taken for a ride in a friend's tunnel that was powered by twin mercs. It wasn't very stable and we ran upper 90's and it scared the beans out of me. I've never liked boats since. 10/4 on the hardness of water Gary. Blow off at that speed and you're history. Funny that dangerous speed on land doesn't affect me.

Fastest I've been riding in a boat was 92. I drove the same friend's boat with three people in it and was able to get it up to 88.

The fastest I ever water skied behind a boat was 63 MPH - that was scary! I fell once before that at 56 MPH and it HURT!

My own boat had a small block Chevy V8 with an high rise intake/Holly four barrel, head work, Crane Cam, and a 17 pitch stainless steel prop. I could pull 8 skiers with it for ski shows with that prop or could change it to a 21 pitch and get it to 72 MPH.

Well when i was about 20 and stupid i did over 100MPH with a friend in a boat very much like the one you rode in. My 2003 Baja Outlaw does about 70 MPH. But it's getting a Supercharger installed this winter and I hope it gets up in the 80's. Of course with 100 gallons of fuel and 4 or 5 people it won't go as fast. i wouldn't want to hit a log or something going that fast. A local guy who had a fast boat on Lake Zoar died here about 8 years ago when he hit a submerged log. Be careful! we wouldn't want to loose you!

Presently my 30' Scarab runs mid 80's. With a prop change and juice upper 90's, but that is really hard on the motors, so I have them toned down for longevity. When I was Drag Boat Racing, I ran a Blown Gas Flatbottom in the 130's for 3 years. I still have lots of parts if anyone is interested. Sir-Real, you knew I would eventually see this post, huh????

45ish. When you come off a water ski ramp and crash it may as well be 100. You check to make sure the limbs still work.

I went over a ski jump ONCE. I thought I was skiing on glass; my skiswent our from under me, I bruised my a$$ on the jump and then thought I was going to drown when I hit the water with a thud. NEVER AGAIN.

Fast in a boat is OK, but no more jumps.
