The front-engine dragster in the Dodge Magnum Hemi truck commercials is a cleverly disguised rather famous dragster. It's the Thomas, Lenhoff & Flurer "Jade Grenade" Top Fuel car. It was considered state-of-the-art for its time (1969-1971) with its "swing out rail design" Don Long digger chassis, Keith Black late-model hemi power, and incredibly beautiful Bob Barber-applied House of Kolor Jade Green candy paint. The Jade Grenade dominated late 60's East Coast Top Fuel action. It recorded a best of 6.33 seconds (Oct. 10, 1971) at Epping, New Hampshire, then the quickest elapsed time in the nation for front-motored cars, and the second quickest overall clocking that year to Don Garlits (6.21 seconds) in the revolutionary mid-engine "Swamp Rat - XIV." The completely restored car debuted at the 2001 NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion and was fired up for the first time under the awning at the Doubletree Hotel.
How's that for a bunch of semi-useless factoids????
