What's the going rate? My wife is shopping, she drove the Crossfire, Z4, and RX-8 yesterday. Z4 is in the lead, she didn't like the blindspots in the Crossfire, decided the RX-8 is a 'kids' car...

Dealer has several '03 'leftover Z4's... any one know what they go for over invoice?

Thanks!

Mike

Mike - I'll give this one a try. Let's start with the '03s left in inventory. These vehicles are usually sold close to cost to move out. Dealer rebates (not the same as consumer rebates) are issued for leftover stock when new models appear.

2004's - low production, high demand units bring higher profits over cost. Supply and demand story. Too bad the wife didn't like the RX8. They got some bad press about over stating their horsepower, which Mazda acknowledged, and those cars are probably being sold at lower profits now to get them out on the street. I'm thinking the 2004 Z4 and Crossfire are going to bring higher gross profits until they have been out for 18 months or so. Then prices (deals) should come down. I'm sure there are dealers out there that will sell outright close to cost,,,,but you are going to have to do the legwork to find them. Those guys usually aren't right down the road from where you live. Smaller towns and cities in middle America is where I would look for a great price. There is less of a market for those models in smaller population areas. Buy, fly, and drive it home. JMO

I forgot to answer your other question. Those units you are looking at,,,,,I would think their minimum profit would be $500 to $1500 range. I'm sure they will be looking for $2000+ profit and will hold and fight for every last dollar.
Put your game face on,,,take some control of the offer situation and DON'T be afraid to WALK. Ask them where the "Be Back Pole" is located, so you can sign it when leaving. Everyone says they will 'be back',,,,,the dealers know they probably will never see you again when leaving.

Thanks for the replies AC.

When you say cost does that mean invoice? Like the info I can get at edmunds.com?

I forgot to mention... the Crossfire... I sold a MB SLK when I got my Prowler. When I got in the Crossfire it was like sitting in my SLK! The dash is almost exactly the same! The sales guy was touting it as being more than half Mercedes...

Thanks! - Mike

So we get our figure together... if they match our figure, we say yes. Otherwise we walk out. They put up no fight... painless purchase!

We're now a 2 roadster family!

Mike - sorry,,,I wasn't online yesterday and didn't see your other question about Edmunds.

CONGRATS on the nice ride purchase. It looks super and I hear those Z4s scoot.

Thanks NastyCat! I wasn't impressed with my photography. It was too dark by the time we got the car home, plus I didn't have much room! I backed up into the corner and got as much as I could of both cars...

BTW, you can see my $2 parking assistants in the pic. Those came up in another thread a while back. Folks were talking about paying $25 for ParkMate mats. I bought a 4' piece of 1"x1", cut it into 4 equal pieces, pull the cars in just enough to get the door down, then glue them to the floor under the front tire with a $1 tube of Liquid Nails. Works like a charm.

I plan to get some better shots of both cars together, but it will have to wait a week or so. My wife took off this morning, test driving the Z4 to Texas and back! Dealer said the break in period limits were only no jack rabbit starts, and keep in under 110!

Mike - I see termites eating away at your $2 parking stops

I bought the ParkSmart mat for $15,,,,lifetime warranty or first rain, whichever comes first. Just can't beat that kind of warranty, lol.

$2 .. too much!

Use a tennis ball hung from a string that is hung from overhead......piece of string and a tennis ball.. mount that baby so that the 'nose' or the windshield touches it when you park.. works like a charm...
