Word to the wise, CarFax is only as accurate as what folks put into the system (or for that matter, even tell the system).

From time to time, I buy low milege exotics and have run across more then a few that have perfect CarFaxes yet, inspections reveal things like the car was in a wreck, paint jobs, engine problems, etc.

It doesn't even help with the mileage factor either as one could buy a car with 1000 miles on the OD, add another 20,000 to that then roll the OD back to 2000 before selling it and to CarFax, since 2000 is greater then the highest mileage value it had for the car, it would say it's o.k.

Best bet is to hire a local, 3rd party (no direct interest) mechanic and have them give the car a once over. Then can check paint thickness, cylinder pressure, timing, etc.

Could be the best $150 you'll spend.
