My best friend's sister was brutally raped and murdered in 1978. The guy was caught and sentenced to death. In 1979 they declared the death penalty unconstitutional and commuted his death sentence to a life sentence. They have since reinstated the death penalty but cannot change his sentence back. This means that after 20 years served, he becomes eligible for parole. He comes up for parole every two years now. Every two years the family has to relive this tragedy in their attempts to keep him in prison. The petition is to gather as many signatures of people as we can to keep this guy behind bars. Here is the petition and cover letter. http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/dakota/762/03petitioncover.html http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/dakota/762/03petition.html You will need to send them both in to: Raven Kazen This needs to be received by them no later than September 1, 2003. Please, if you forward this to anyone, you should copy and paste the above info to go along with it. ------------------ This message has been edited by idive on 12-27-2003 at 09:45 PM |

If anyone out there has gotten any signatures on this, please set Monday August 25 as the deadline to get it in the mail in time to insure its arrival by September 1. Thanks again. |

Will the petition be effective if those that participate are not Texas residents? Just curious. |

quote: Yes. Any adult U.S. citizen can sign the petition. If you can't manage to get any signatures, don't let that stop you from signing it and sending it in yourself. Both you and your spouse can sign as well. Taking it to the smokies would be great, as long as it got in the mail on Tuesday. We don't want this getting there late. Maybe it could be signed at the registration table. This message has been edited by idive on 08-22-2003 at 11:07 PM |

I want to thank everyone that helped with signatures on this. I heard back from my friend and WE WERE SUCCESSFUL! PAROLE WAS DENIED! And thanks to a new Texas law that allows the family to request an extension, he will not be up for parole again until 2006! I hope I can count on your help again then. Once again, I cannot thank you enough for your help! ------------------ |
