I am computer illiterate and I finally figured out how to post a picture. Alley Cat is either right behind me or right ahead of me with his computer skills. He will be impressed or worried that the world will soon end due to this quantum leap in my technological abilities.

It is very simple to take off the hardtop, with 2 people. Why do you need to get in the trunk? There can't be much in there that you need to get to, other than the soft top and you won't be using that with the hardtop installed.
If you look at the soft top while it is up, do you think you could hinge that? It is the same latches and connections with the hardtop.

When I used to own a 58 Corvette I could unlatch the front latches and just lift up the hardtop connected to the decklid. But....... the Corvette had 3 mounting points and screws and nuts. I dont want to try that with the prowler hardtop. Maybe someone else is braver than I !

IN THEORY you could add gas struts to the inside of the hard top or if you only want the hard top you could re cut the edge of the trunk lid and remove the soft top that way you not only have a hard top but a trunk as well

twisted.......if you modified the deck lid by cutting it, how would you seal the space between the lid and the hardtop to avoid water leaking into the trunk area?

I guess I am not following what you are thinking. "You could add gas shocks to the inside of the hardtop" and attach them to what? And then what would the gas shocks do to assist in opening the trunk?

i will try to be clear this time
gas shocks support things chrysler uses them to support the hoods of the cars while open so that you do not need to use that stick thing to hold up the hood (i think its called a prop rod). hinge the roof at the wind sheild and attach the gas shocks (one on each side attached to the roof and the car {see pic #2})the gas shocks will hold up the roof high enough to open the truck so that you do not need someone to help you completely remove the roof to acces the trunk

sorry i should rephrase that you could modify the deck lid so that it doesnt isnt blocked by the hard top the modification would include cutting the deck lid and the opening for the trunk not to mention the modification to the gaskets to keep water out

I am quite sure someone could fabricate a way to move the hardtop in order to open the truck lid or modify the truck lid so it can be opened with the hardtop in place. BUT these modifications would involve changing the way the top attaches to the windshield, how the deck lid opens and would affect the operation of the convertible top as well, PLUS cost a lot of $$$$. In my opinion, unless you have a nitrous bottle in the back (like me :D) a much simpler solution to storage when you have a hardtop is to put a Weekender on the back, cruise, and have fun.

Of course, for some people, the fun is in designing and making something that nobody else has done before, so go for it if it is something that really interests you.

Good Luck with the project

Marty

I think I am following you now. You are going to place the bottom of the gas shock on top of the trunk lid that you are going to open. They are going to mount in the holes that will be cut off when you modify the trunk lid. You may have a little more planning to do before you put the plan in motion.
