I have been working on our `67 Dodge dart convertible for the last 8 years.....really I was only going to change the carpet, but then I thought I should clean up the door jambs....OH, the motor should come out and paint the engine compartment & change it over to a V 8..........OH HE**.....take every damn bolt out of it....OK, I left 2 in it.....

The motor was built and run on the Dyno 2 years ago....405 HP @ 5,300 and 438 LB FT of Torque @ 4,300.....today Sue turned the key to fire it up, I was throttle man (not hooked up yet, and had fire extingusher and some rags.....Mom & Dad were standing there and Mom run out of the barn yelling "YOU ARE CRAZY" after it fired, right now it is running with open headers and quite LOUD, she thought that is how it would stay.

Since the motor was run on the dyno it fired right up and once the lifters got pumped up and it smoothed out, DID IT EVER SOUND GOOD. It goes to get the top put on on the 10th and then back to the paint shop to finish the body....I hope to have it done sometime this year.

I'm excited to get it this far.......there are things on the motor that will be changed to look better but this will get it in and out of the trailer to get the other work done

Way to go Larry, I can only imagine the adrenalin pump when Wildkitty cranked it over. Would like to have been there!

it is a .040 340 with factory piston compression when checked it came out to 9.9 to 1 (I want to run on pump gas)
Comp cam and adjustable rockers in modified "J" heads (2.02/1.60 SS valves) Air gap intake with 700 Holley on top, nothing real fancy done to it.

The guy yhtat built it is really a chevy guy and he was SURPRISED with the dyno numbers, his `69 Z28 302 is way short of my 340 on the same dyno

In one of my Mopar Muscle mag they built a 340 that came out 391 HP. I took it to Steve and said build this out of my stuff. The only difference in the 2 are the adjustable rockers on mine and they run an 800 CFM carb. They had to spin it up to 6,300 to get the 391......I think I need more carb to get the most out of my setup , but I just wanted a good street motor and I think I should have that....

MG.....dad was watching Sue as she cranked it over and said she was smiling ear to ear as it fired.....she kept talking about the vibration in her chest as it was running and LOVED IT

Larry:

Great project!
You'll never forget doing this one. As I've heard;
"It's the journey, not the destination".

Good luck!

Larry, They decided to close up shop on Friday so she is available for the entire week-end. Too bad they don't close on the 11th so we could get to Columbus but we will make it up there for at least one day, hopefully two days. Personally I never let her near anything that hurts because she usually squeezes it and then says, "does that hurt?" as I jump off the ground.
Her other famous line is, "Don't expect any sympathy from me, I'm a nurse." Use her medical skills at your own risk.
She is a wonderful person in her own right, though. (disclaimer)
