I knew this would happen....

Own a Prowler and love it. Will own it till I die hopefully. Went to the CAAP store last year with CJ and friends and saw the Vipers. Purchased a shirt that says Viper/Prowler team. Cool Shirt.

Went to Andy Rapach's and saw his beautiful garage with a Prowler and right next to it a beautiful red Viper.

A Viper passed Shelley and I last evening and she went - "wow, how much are those ?"

I have now set a goal of someday owning a Viper. It will be a while most likely with five kids, college etc...but my questions is, who owns one, how well do you like it and what is the best way I can learn more about them ? I am serious about looking into getting a Viper along with the Prowler someday....

Thanks,

John

....I have four of them just an hour away from you, with a fifth one due tomorrow....have had 9 in the last 3 years or so...the original RT/10 is a balls out rough car....no roll up windows, leaky roof, but pure adrenaline....the GTS is a bit more civilized(my wife would ride in these)a little more horsepower and a little quieter, less exhaust smell ....just a nicer car....later RT/10 models were just as nice as a GTS with the same horse power ratings, they even have power windows...the GTS/ACR was made from '99 till '02, my personal choice, but they are a little on the rough side ride wise...the new SRT is by far the most BRUTAL Viper I have ever owned, yet it is as smoothe as silk...hard to explain, but it is scary fast....have had various Vipers in the 140-180 MPH range, and the SRT feels the best at speed of ANY car I have ever owned...as I said, I am just a little over an hour from you...get over here and FEEL THE SPEED.....bring your wife and take her for a spin....prices will vary of course, but early low mile RT/10 Vipers are approximately $37K to $45K....GTS Vipers are approximately $45K to $60K for nice low mile used cars....remember, there are NO MORE of either of those styles, they are discontinued....the new SRT is around $80K to $85K.....insurance runs around $800. per year for me with full coverage, but I am old with a good driving record(one ticket in 33 years)...they are fun to look at and drive....can show you all styles of Vipers at one stop.....

Hey John.

Go to www.viperclub.org .

The site is very informative and has an excellent forum section like th POA where you can ask questions or search for past topics.

The Viper Club of America is an actual club where you pay dues to support club activities, recieve Viper magazine etc. You do not have to be a member to participate in the forums on the website.

Good luck, I love both cars and would not replace one with the other. I think they both are beautifully styled and unique in their own way.

I agree with Andy, the VCA web site is the place to learn more about the Viper.

I also own both the Viper and the Prowler and they are unique in their own way.Viper for the raw power, true sports car feel and Prowler for the looks and its great cruising and social aspect that it brings.
To both cars-thumbs up!

Great information...

Visited the site - much to learn . what is an RT/10 -vs- and SRT etc. Thought there was only one Viper. Looking forward to learning about them.

Hey Tangled - I will take you up on your offer ! Would love to see and learn and more about the cars. I'll send you an email.

John,
Just go to http://www.viperclub.org/menus/index_ivr.htm
the RT/10 is an open coupe w/removeable roof panel, early cars had side curtains, later models had windows, removable rear window.
the GTS is closed coupe
the ACR is the race version that is streetable
the SRT is a convertable
I think I have this correct.

Here are a couple of pics of the new SRT-10 that I shot on Saturday.
Awesome car.

t

Oh, thought I should mention, it will NOT be available in this color, at least no yet. These are the cars that were used in 2Fast 2Furious.

Steve T, were you there at TMS?

Gene,

NO - she does not know I am asking these questions. Yes, she would laugh at me at this point....

Man are these cars beautiful.... She would love one if I were out of debt. It's certainly a goal for me now.

The more information the better - I am loving this.

tangled up in BLUE,

Is that red SRT, is that an aftermarket hardtop & spoiler or have they started making SRT Hardtops?

Spoons...
The red SRT has a removeable hardtop, rear spoiler, front and side splitters...alum gas cap and a rollbar w/cover....all the work was doine at AutoForm in Holland Mi....it is one "of a kind" at this point in time...it was used as an engineering tool to design the parts for the new SRT....new Viper coupes are a few years away according to most sources....possibly '06 or '07 models.....the red SRT with the top down and the silver SRT are not my cars....just shots off the net...

I agree with Mr Viper himself, Larry (tangled). I absolutely love the look of my GTS and it goes like stink - just an awesome looking brute of a machine. The SRT on the other hand has a bit more of a refined look but is an terrific handling machine - it is a thrill to drive and handles much better than the GTS. The power in these cars is exhilerating - a different feel than the "miles of smiles" feel of the Prowler

Wayne....the GTS reminds me so much of my 2 favorite cars....Cobra Daytona and the Ferrari GTO....funny, these are both early '60s designs and they are still among the most beautiful cars ever made....I think the GTS will also have a timeless appeal....it is a beautiful car and a shame it was discontinued.....

Larry,

Sent you an email...... I have time to visit today - let me know if you get this in time. 10:20 your time on the 29th. I have to get the lawn done and then I could travel over.

Met Dave Dennis last evening and he just took in a 2000 SRT Racing Viper...... may be something you would want to look at. 12,000 miles.
