I know time flies. But 5 years since Dale Sr.lost his life in turn 4 right in front of us, does not seem possible. Seems like yesterday. I still enjoy and follow NASCAR, but it hasn't and never will be the same. He wasn't my favorite driver, but he was the best and he had something that was different. 5 years ,wow.

Funny how it seeems like time does fly pretty quick.I remember that race well Tom....from the camera angle it didn't seem like such a big hit but it ended up that way!

To someone like Dale, that probably was the way he wanted to exit the stage. Going out doing something he loved with a passion.

I think his greatest legacy was his death as it fueled a passion and tons of attention on NASCAR. He's probably laughing thinking about it right now.....

It is still a little ironic that the very move that he made to so many other drivers, is what killed him.

I remember that day well. We had been at Virginia Tech visiting our son (PTLeftTurn) and we were driving north on I-81 at the time of the accident. I was only able to listen to the race. It was the first one that I had not been home to watch since they started televising them.

I had personally seen him in many worse crashes than that one. Just the angle and his funky driving position. His death has no doubt saved others because of the HANS devise that is now required. He was one of a kind. I bet there will be some sort of 5 year mention or memorial when I get down there. Noone has taken his place, I don't know if anyone can.
