Anyone have the best way to learn about eBay ? I have purchased some stuff off of ebay and I have had no problems. But I have been reading about all the horror stories here.... Are there books ? On line stuff ? What is the best way to learn about buying and selling, and the ups downs pitfalls ? I have tons of stuff I want to begin selling - some we will donate here at home (Clothes etc.) but some is certainly worth ebay. With five kids, you know I have a bunch of stuff left...... Appreciate any advice John ------------------ 2001 Orange, Mopar Exhaust, MTD Intake, Front and Rear Mud Flaps, Chrome Shimmers, Orange Prowler Logo Valve Caps, Ceramic Brake Pads, Prowleronline.com License Bracket, Eric Wolf Chrome Trans Cover, Mopar Hitch and Trailer. |

John, read as much as you can on the eBay site. Be careful if you get notices that start out "dear eBay member" and don't click on links that then require you to log on and give your password. You can call me if you have specific questions. If you let folks pay with paypal and use credit csrds they will charge you 2 % (I think) for every transaction even when a credit card is not used. That can add up over the years. The listing fees are pretty low. If you put in a reserve price you get charged for the final selling fee even if it does not reach the reserve and does not sell. |

Asking other ebaYers questions usually helps me. Of course you will hear about the horror stories....no one is going to start a website because they had a great ebaY experience. When its a bad one you let as many people know about it as you possible can. If you have any specific questions, ask and they shall be answered.

Find out if any of your local friends have sold stuff on eBay before. Ask him/her to come to your house and show you how to sell using your Computer and eBay login, etc. A cold Brew usually is enough to get a volunteer....I've done this for a few of my pals in the past and usually that's all it takes- just seeing how to do it on your own machine. Really simple. Good luck, Buddy. PS- The one thing I have learned on eBay is that "One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Treasure" is very true! |

Thanks for the advice - I do have two friends who do this often so a few brews would be a good thing.... and one of them sold a used pair of tennis shoes for like $20 and a Cieling fan that was in his attic for 8 years in a box for $75. So One mans trash is certainly anothers treasure..... Shelley and I have just accumulated so much over the years and it is time to get rid of some of it... Thanks for all the great advice. The ebay for Dummies looks good - wonder if I can buy it on eBay ? John This message has been edited by Stray Cat on 02-04-2006 at 10:56 PM |
