Bet you thought we were talking about a car. But not this time.

We have many roadrunners that frequent the area and one is pretty friendly. We named him 'Ralph' and he loves to eat cheese, raisins and hard boiled eggs. We can hand feed him, although most of the time we just put it on the ground so he can gobble it up or take it away so he can share it with his family.

Ralph wants to know what is on the menu:

Norm and Ralph discussing the menu and the weather:

"Okay, now I have the cheese"

"Thanks, and hasta la vista"

Actually they really like to eat small animals. They will fly up into the tree and remove baby birds. We also watched a roadrunner carrying a baby rabbit until the mother rabbit chased him around the yard, the roadrunner finally dropped the baby rabbit which was still alive since we heard it crying. I guess it was too big for the roadrunner.

We get an occassional coyote wandering through the neighborhood and the coyotes do love cats! Have not been able to get a picture since they are gone so quickly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another animal that we have visiting in our yard and they sometimes spend the winter, is a fox family. There was two adults and two younger foxes that have been coming and going for a couple of years, but haven't seen them this year.
One of the younger foxes got close enough to the back patio that I was able to get a picture through the screen.
The neighbors cat (on rock wall ready to pounce) found itself in our yard at the same time the fox was out wandering. Thought this might lead to a confrontation, but the fox could have cared less and finally the cat left.
This is pretty neat seeing all the wildlife since we live in the city limits, which used to be just on the outskirts of town. It is really building up out here so don't expect to see too much more.
Very cool pics!!! We have a roadrunner mom and dad that live in our tree out in the front yard (we have 7 acres). She stays on the nest and he forages and brings her back whatever he gets. We too have a fox that runs back and forth across our yard in the early mornings. We've had a bobcat, but haven't seen him lately. Unfortunately, we also have a large pack of coyotes that run all around this area. We've seen them just a few feet from our black stallion in the back pasture. T
When we first moved into the house 30 years ago, before a rock wall fence was put up around the backyard we had the occasion to have a bobcat come up to the sliding glass door on the master bedroom.
What makes this funny to tell now was that Pat woke up and told Norm "there's a mountain lion in the backyard!" The animal was gone by the time he got out of bed to see what was there.You know when you can't see without your glasses, you never know what someone might think they saw. It came back the next day and Norm saw it this time, so the big mystery was over. Never saw it again, though and I guess that is good.
He only looks tall next to Wile E. Coyote!
Cool pics Norm! There were always Roadrunners running around the power plant I worked at in Newhall, CA. I'm glad they were hanging out. They sure kept the rattlesnake population down.
When the Roadrunner senses danger or is traveling downhill, it flies, revealing short, rounded wings with a white crescent. But it cannot keep its large body airborne for more than a few seconds, and so prefers walking or running (up to 17 miles per hour) usually with a clownish gait.
