Awesome, Dusti...we get them ever so occasionally, as you know! Beautiful creatures IMHO--too. Good pics!

Sweet Dusti, thats why i love my Texas hill country hse, they come thru my property every day early morn and eve. My Siberian Husky drools at the window, thinking about DINNER! The only deer i shot was one that was hit by a car in front of my hse and was left there for dead, but wasn't,and wouldn't have lived ,so i put it out of its misery, got really teary eyed, i would rather buy it in a store , than kill.

I probably never saw a deer until I was 20. Now they are more plentiful than rabbits or squirrels around here. I think there were over 1000 accidents involving deer in our county this past year. The herd will grow quickly and become major pests. They are pretty and very graceful but wreak havoc upon any plants even in the middle of the city. The county park system is paying about 10 hunters to thin the herds in the parks. There is not enough food to go around for all of them.

I am concerned about the upside down flag, meaning great distress.

Nice pics. Isn't it great to back onto the forest instead of someone's back yard... I noticed the flag as well!

Ed, Doc - no distress just yet - we have had REALLY gusting winds the past couple of days and that happened Wednesday - didn't have time yet to "CRANK IT UP" again

Deer are a severe problem in my neighborhood. Most everyone has hit at least one. We love to plant flowers and had to give up on them due to the deer eating them all. They eat hosta to the ground and azaleas back to the bark. They were 7 in my front yard this morning when I left home. When we moved to our home 3 years ago we thought it was neat having them in your yard every day, but not now. We have so many because most of the homes in our neighborhood are on lots from 2 to 5 acres, so they had habitat without too much housing density. We are at a lake also. We are just outside the city limits and are in a fairly populous county where you can't discharge a gun. They have no natural preditors, nor humans can't hunt them, thus we have a severe over population. If you could shoot them it would be for pest control, because they are so tame it would not be sporting.

Randy, YEP. They love Impatiens, also. I was in the hot tub last summer and I heard something and they were eating apples off the tree about 10 feet from me. I had to get out of the hot tub and actually chase them because they would not run away if I simply made noise. I used to chase them on the motorcycle where I used to live. They would eat off the porches, balconies (hanging plants), and patios.

About 4 weeks ago during dinner, i heard a loud "scuffle" happening outside my window at the dinner table, as it turned out it was a doe and buck deciding to "mate" on my daughters picnic table on the porch, quite loud and violent, knocking stuff all over the place before deciding to start ramming my windows and kicking the house. after about 2-3 minutes, they finished and just walked off. hopefully the buck got to take a nap anyway....nice pics in the yard. paul b yorkville, IL
