Of course, I watched the flick w/Bill Murray & Andie MacDowall--again--as I do every, every, every year! And every year, it cracks me up as if I'm viewing it for the very first time. It seemed like only yesterday that Mac McKenzie started this Festival as a mid- winter gathering for hundreds of his closest friends. Since that fateful time in 1956, almost 50 years ago, the Festival has grown and matured and has become the largest winter event in Grey-Bruce. Thousands take in over 40 different events celebrating winter and Canada�s prognosticating groundhog. The Wiarton Willie Festival has become a major fundraiser for local charitable organizations in Wiarton. Over the years, the Wiarton Willie Festival has garnered many awards: While on a recent and rare visit to the area, the Prime Minister of Canada took advantage of the great facilities of the Wiarton-Keppel District Airport. To make his trip to Wiarton complete, the PM took the opportunity to meet and chat up Willie. The PM was hoping for an early forecast, but Willie was the sole of discretion and poor Mr. Martin, can�t speak groundhogese. There were handshakes and smiles all around, the airport tarmac looked like a scene out of �West Wing�. Exciting times, what a great way to set the stage for the 50th celebrations. Wow!! John Tory, Paul Martin�what other political celebs will be falling all over themselves to shake hands with our favourite prognosticator? Have you made your reservation for the great 50th Anniversary celebrations on February 2nd ? The Canada version of Phil is Wiarton Willie....today he didn't see his shadow meaning spring is just around the corner. Happy Groundhog Day!

A friend approached me the other day and asked about this animal in PA that can predict the weather...It took me about 20 mins to figure out what the heck he was talking about. Ol Phil is still alive?
