Well,

I took the SSR to show a friend and I didn't;'t notice last evening when I picked it up, but they drilled holes in the front of the SSR and put on the License Plate Bracket..... I could not believe it.

They are offering to remove it, fix the holes and paint the areas where they drilled - he promised he could "make it go away".

Should I :

1) Keep the Plate - it does not look that bad on an SSR (like it does on a Prowler or a Viper)-I think that the Ohio Requirement for a Front Plate is about to Go away.

2) Make them fix it ?

3) Make them put a New Front Facia ?

They initially said that they put one on Every car since Ohio is a two Plate State but I assure you, they do not do that on Corvettes......

Can a Body Shop accurately repaint the Aqua Blurr Color - It would be on the two lover Horizontal Bars on the Front end.

Advice ?

Thanks,

John

PS. God always sends me little messages that say; "Hey, It's only a car, don't fret. Materiel things mean nothing in the grand scheme of things"

Personally,I think I'd want the car without the holes at all.....because I just think the front plate(in most cases)takes away from the lines of the car.I t would be ideal if you could get a rubberized bracket(like the one they make for the Viper)to have on or off as is your preference with no holes drilled.

I wouldn't fight them for a fascia. If the law requires a front plate in that state they can get out of doing anything at all.

I would give them a chance to fill and paint the holes. If it turns out poor you can always put the plate back on.

Mine was an unfortunate one that got drilled by the dealer as well. We are required to have two plates here, but I never follow that law. I have a Power Tour 2005 plate up front on mine.

I get these and paint them to match, filling the holes and having the fascia repainted would be bad idea. JMO

If the paint doesn't match when they plug or repair the holes, how bad would a new front facia look if that paint didn't match. I'd stick with the plugs or having the holes repaired.

The dealership I use to work at had customers pizzed off all the time for drilling holes in front bumpers, mostly on PT Cruisers. The owner told us that as long as they were on his lot they were his and he wanted his sign on all of them. Needless to say we put in dozens of hole plugs.

John,

I had the unfortunate opportunity of putting holes in my front bumper on a previous vehicle. (Trust me, don’t ask) I took it to a body shop and they filled it and painted it without issue. It’s just like all those rides where they remove the make or model plates on a vehicle that have pegs.

What if the new bumper paint doesn’t match?

I’d say let them do it. Just let them know if it’s not to your liking, they will be replacing the whole thing.

I'm worried about them being able to match the Aqua Blurr paint - if you have not seen this color, it goes from Blue to Green to Purple to Aqua - very cool paint. Just shy of a Mystique like ford did on the Mustang....

I was inclined to just keep it on as it doesn't look all that bad and with personalized plates would be OK..... Until the Wife saw it and said; " Well, if it was on straight that would be one thing., but it is off center". It is off center by about 1/2 inch so I do not want it on. Being off center, the Plugs would not look good.

Like 01Prolwer said, I am inclined to let them do it. Just let them know if it’s not to my satisfaction, they will be replacing the whole thing. They promised me it would look perfect.....

My 1997 Prowler didn't have the front plate installed when I bought it but it was screwed in when I went to pick it up. I was also mad about it but I just let it go. Another dealership ruined the front bumpers a few years later so they replaced them on their dime. I made sure no holes were drilled in the replacement set, but now they are up in my attic catching dust so it didn't matter at all in the end.

Have them plug the holes and leave it, it will never look the same after being painted.

I would keep it except it is way of center - the goof ball who put it on should never be able to touch a car. If they cant fix it to my liking then I will want it replaced....
Thanks for all the advice

More to come.

While I sympathize with you, the guy may not be a goof ball at all. Before my Prowler, I drove a Mercedes SLK. The local MB dealer gets in truckloads of MB's every day, lowest MSRP of what? maybe $45K now, probably around $40K at the time... the FIRST THING THEY DO, is drill holes in the front of the car to put on a license plate bearing the name of the dealership... and front plates aren't even required in KY! So, as dumb as it may seem to most of us, the poor goof ball may have just been following instructions...

I would agree if he had put it on straight..... it is 1/2 inch off center.... Therefore, I still think he is a goof ball. Maybe he is not a goof ball but he certainly should not be allowed to touch another SSR or Vette. It was apparent in shopping for one of these things that I am a bit more particular, like when the salesman jumps up on the running board with a coat on with a metal zipper, or they drag their feet across the running boards leaving a black streak while getting in, or bust the tether on the gas cap putting in a fresh tank of Gas....and on and on. I was really amazed at the salesman in these places.

I believe that is called "The Dumbing Down of America".

Did you finally break down and buy it? When is the blower being installed.
