Jimmy Addison passed away on Friday, January 6, 2006.

Jimmy owned the Silver Bullet - the 1967 Plymouth Belvidere GTX that made Woodward Avenue famous for cruisin' and street racing. No one beat Jimmy and the Silver Bullet. He sold the car years ago and Harold Sullivan purchased it from the guy that bought it from Jimmy. Harold restored it and is part of his awesome Mopar collection of cars. This is the same Woodward Avenue of the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise that we attend every year. Many of you have visited Harold's collection and seen the original Silver Bullet. Some of you may have bought the 1:19 scale models of the Silver Bullet from Harold. Some of you may even had them signed by Harold and Jimmy.

You can read about Jimmy and the Silver Bullet here:

Jimmy Addison

May he rest in peace in Hot Rod Heaven...

I had both Jimmy and Harold sign my diecast at Woodward this past year. Rest in Peace Jimmy. I hope someone recorded your memoirs from ruling Woodward

I hope he rest in peace. Class guy. He stood around while others owned his car, and took some sparkle from him. But he was the guy who ran the car.

It’s the simple fact that the Silver Bullet (a name coined by Ro McGonegal and the CC story specifically) was nothing less than a factory-backed car purpose-built for street racing. It’s obviously a case in which two entities (a large automaker and street racing) will never ever cross paths again.

To me, this is what makes this car and a visit to Harold's in '04 so special. A close second is Harold agreeing to meet JD on Woodward for a photo op. We barely made it in time, thanx to the traffic, but what a special memory.
CJ, the pictures really bring it back.

How depressing.. What a nice guy too & proud of owning the Original Silver Bullet... He will be in my thoughts & prayers. How is Harold dealing with all of this? I know they had a great relationship.

We took this shot of Jimmy Addison as he was signing the "Siver Bullet" for Rich Ware.

It was taken at 13 Mile and Woodward last August at the Woodward Dreamcruise. This is right at the center of where the legend was born.

Mike, Great picture! Thanks for posting it. That's one of the pictures that you forget to take and becomes so important to the memories later.

Marc, Today you just don't read about it. It took years before the original stories came out. Think about it, where did ISream come from? How was Mike K able to build a 302 V-6? How has Marty Usher had his car "dialed in"?

We grew up with Woodward. We lived it. Ever get a ticket for obstructing traffic? How about excessive noise with the tires? Or my favorite, speed contest with yourself.

In the sixties and very early 70's, I helped GM filter out the "right parts" to racers. My customers included Chrysler Corporation and the guys that went on to form Direct Connection which in-turn lead to Mopar Performance and has now come full circle to Direct Connection again. For one they bought special aluminum cross flow radiators from me to give to racers like Richard Petty.

Before I retired, I filtered parts out for the various projects that were written up in magazines. The Popular Hot Rodding article on the Mopar Nation included quiet references to me. Bobby Alloway got his facts wrong and his faux pax was corrected in the letter to the editor in December's issue.

Doubt it? Ask Marty how much difference it makes in being able to "dial in" his car.

Jimmy Addison ran out of Ted Sphar's Sunoco station. He ran the stuff that his friends at Chrysler provided. Its sad to see him pass. Those guys influenced a lot of people, myself included. Locally, we all looked up to the "big guys" and Jimmy was the most visible.

This guy should truly be a legend, not just his car. Unfortunately, outside of Detroit, most people never even heard his name. I had never heard of it until we went to Harold Sullivan's the first time a few years ago.
Most people now think of SILVER BULLET as the beer commercial. Hopefully his reputation will grow as the years pass.
Thanks for the inside scoop Bob & CJ and the great pic Mike.
