How about the 2007 260-HP 5-spd turbo GXP model?

Cool looking car.

I think it kills the Miata, which I think is the market they are after.

TUIB needs to buy one so I can see how it looks sitting next to 10 Prowlers, a Fleet of Vipers, and a various odd assortment of many, many other fine automobiles Larry owns!

Pontiac - thumbs down Wait for the upgraded sister = Saturn Sky

Look nice with top down,,,up, its a wrinkled mess of poor design. Oversized front fog lamp holes and rear backup light lamp holes,,,look like crap on the Solstice.

CornCobb is right, target market Miata and want-a-be Honda S2000 lookers without the funds to buy a Honda.

Having said the above,,,Pontiac will sell as many as they can build. Early problems: Tops not sealing,,,,,door handles pulling off >>> Did I mention dealer gouge over MSRP? Oh yeah baby!

An article in Jan 02 issue of Autoweek mag about Mallett dropping a Corvette engine in the Solstice. $16,000 of $18,000 additional price. www.autoweek.com

I saw one for the first time on a trip to TX over the holidays. Nice looking car.

I also was passed by a Ford GT on the trip, first one of those I'd seen in person too. That is one fine looking automobile!

Looks like I will keep my Honda S2000. Soltice is under power, the sky ( saturn ) may be okay but time will tell.

As luck would have it, I was driving by Pass & ID here on base--and woolah--there was an old white-haired dude [not unlike myself] about to climb into his dark silver solstice;
so I stopped, got out, shot the poop & inspected it--definitely would wait for the GXP tho' w/260 horses, dual exhaust, etc. He showed me how top fits in trunk. We thought Prowlers had little space--ha. Solstice has less!
But just cute as a Gnat's A$$. He bought it here locally [Montgomery, AL] for MSRP--zero price gouging! He says his is one of five in this area...thus far. Sweet. I like it!

Not a fan of the miata or these. This paints the picture that I pretty much imagine it as...

Mallett Pontiac Solstice V8 reads like a fun car to drive.

Pretty Cool...
http://www.forbesautos.com/reviews/2006/pontiac/solstice/mallett_v8/preview.html

Acknowledging that street racing is a disease with no cure, the Malletts also offer a complete staircase of Solstice V8 upgrades. Their Preferred Package adds air conditioning for an extra $1,995. The Loaded Edition takes another step-up with special adjustable Penske shock absorbers for $4,000. Those with a terminal case of speed-need will want the Supercharged Package that includes all the above plus a belt-driven blower for $42,000. The blower upgrade is expensive because Mallett technicians disassemble the engine to install new pistons with a lower compression ratio.

Stand-alone options include larger wheels and tires, driveline coolers, a heavy-duty radiator, a six-speed transmission and other add-ons.

Sat in one the other day...even tighter than a Prowler! They ARE a sexy little car, but AC is correct (did I say that) the top fits like crapola. Less space than a Prowler in the trunk with the top down. I think the Saturn is better looking especially from the rear, but the Sky won't be released til March.

Mike - you talked to a Solstice owner last summer? They didn't start production until August, and none were delivered to retail customers until after Labor Day in September,,,and then,,,it was very few delivered.

Saturn Sky production run has been set back atleast 30 to 45 days from when the first were to be built. If I don't get a SSR bought,,,I may order a Sky.

Hope it has some go! Because I'm sure the current model is lacking in that department!

I think its a good looking car. I remember seeing some up close and personal at a restaurant last summer during the Woodward Cruise. They were factory cars as indicated by the plates. I thought it was funny seeing them parked by the Prowlers. GM also had some redesigned GTOs parked nearby. I remember shooting some pictures of them all. However, I have not seen ONE on the street as of yet.

As a former owner of a Pontiac Fiero GT I REALLY like the
Solstice...........although I'd prefer the 'later' version with more HP as compared to this model.

Good looking car though........so is the Saturn !

Definitely 2 winners for GM ......about time they show
some innovation instead of just ripping off the competition when it comes to design

We picked up our '06 red Solstice yesterday (010706) after ordering it in October. It's VIN'd as ...7122, just the 122'd after that initial 7000 promo run. To date the dealership had only been allocated several and all were black. No one at the dealership had even seen a red one yet, and our's is actually the first we've seen on the road here in NJ. For the dealership it was not only the first red, it was also the first custom build in and first in with the new 18" chrome wheels. Here are several reduced shots: http://www.mzilla.com/pages/5/index.htm

Thanks. Since we got it to be the Mrs's new daily driver, she had the privilege of driving it home from the dealership but we just got back in from my first road tour and I'm happy with it. Has much more head room then the Crossfire which I stopped considering after one test seating, and the power is more than enough as the wife's daily driver. The prior two seaters we had were a 67 MGB-GT and an 81 Vette and I'd take the Solstice over them any day. Dustis, I'd be glad to post a shot of any angle or part you're interested in. Immediate hitch is the Rooty Kazooty website package I have to work with automatically shrinks every pic to too small a size and steps on the resolution while doing so. I'm looking at the scrapbook and forum picture posting instructions here to provide something better for you.

OK, here goes. I'll have to do this in two posts due to the per post posting limit. These were already reduced to a native display size of about 11.75"W x 8.5"H, and are being auto reduced to about 8.25" x 6.5", obviously I'm no html jockey.

These were taken the day the Solstice arrived at the dealership and they had it out front with the top down:

Part 2:

This one helps provide a sense of scale to the Solstice and shows the owner of the dealership, Don Buhler standing next to it, he's about 6':

These were taken a couple days later when we went to pick it up and they had the top back up:

This one is with the salesman John Getta and Jackie, yeah I think she was happy:

This one shows the '02 Envoy we traded in and the '06 Solstice. Goodbye utility, hello fun. I think the '03 Hemi 2500 Ram will be able to meet the utility needs 8-)

This one helps show the pretty low front ground clearance; only about 3.25" from the ground to the black plastic front spoiler under the red front fascia, but with it projecting so little past the centerline of the front axle it doesn't plow on the backside of dips. Gotta admit I was concerned about the healthy curbline dip to our driveway and watched it ease in without problem.

The special order 18" chrome wheels close up:

Hope that helps.
